A REPORT compiled for Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi's appeal against his conviction for the Lockerbie bombing claimed the police investigation into the case was "directed off course" by the CIA, it has emerged.
A private investigation, conducted by a former senior US prosecutor and ex-Metropolitan Police officer, concluded that Mohammed Abu Talb, an Egyptian militant, should have faced trial for the atrocity instead of Megrahi.
Yup. Not remotely. No tragedy, big or small, can ever be allowed to go to waste when there are political ends to be met.I don't think anyone paying attention to this over the last few years will be remotely surprised by this development:
“We relatives need the truth about who murdered our families and article 2 of the human rights legislation guarantees our right to have it. Remember, while that truth is hidden, the true perpetrators are protected,” Dr Swire argues.
“Early next year, in face of the blank refusal of governments to mount any meaningful inquiry, certain relatives will apply to the SCCRC for a further appeal against the Megrahi verdict. It is likely that some of us will also pursue other routes to force an honest inquiry out of obdurate governments. Twenty-five years is too long, and we should not be opposed by our own elected governments.”
Adequately Explained by Stupidity?: Lockerbie, Luggage and Lies, by forensic pathologist Dr Morag Kerr, argues that crucial evidence about the suitcase bomb was withheld from the trial of Abdelbasset al-Megrahi because it would have provided the Libyan with a water-tight alibi.
A documentary claims to have uncovered evidence that Iran, not Libya, ordered the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie in December 1988.
Surprised it wasn't Russia. Maybe they didn't receive enough notice to change the script.Better late than never, I suppose:

No?
Really?
“It’s now accepted by an ex-Justice Secretary that Megrahi might not have bought those clothes. It’s all very well for Mr MacAskill to say he’s got no doubt that he was involved in the bombing in some way, but that’s not how it works in criminal law
“If Megrahi did not buy those clothes that were found in the wreckage of Pan Am flight 103 then that casts doubt on his conviction.”
