Long forgotten movie classics

Big up for Kelly's Heroes, I'll throw in The Battle of Britain, since it was both historically accurate and had just about every English actor in circulation at the time who could run walk or crawl starring in it.

I'll also add The Crow, simply because it's one of my favourite films of all times, as well as Dark City. In terms of war films... Where Eagles Dare and The Guns of Navarone are two that stick out for me that I've not seen mentioned yet.

I know this is a bit OT, but if you're into old school style buddy cop movies like the original Lethal Weapon and also fantasy stuff, you might want to check out Bright on Netflix. I found it surprisingly well paced and it built a believable world.
I've seen (and enjoyed) all of them except Bright. I'll try to catch it.

Really? The trailer never grabbed me. I may have to check it out on your recommendation.

I watched Bright a couple nights ago and I really enjoyed it. I'll give credit where credit is due. I always harp on how Hollywood has run out of creativity, but this movie was certainly creative in some ways. Sure partially it has traits of a typical buddy cop movie, and sure Will Smith's character is basically the same stereotypical angry-sarcastic black cop in almost every buddy cop movie since Beverly Hills Cop. I'm also sure there is some social political commentary buried in there, but they don't bludgeon you over the head with it taking you out of the movie. I could mention a few more things, but overall this is nitpicking. It's just a fun movie and doesn't really try to be more than a fun movie.

The movie was not what I expected from the posters and trailer I saw. I thought their use of mythology was done well in an alternate universe. They just introduce it all, without laboring on back stories. It is what it is and move on in a way that is good storytelling. A lot of it is just mentioned in passing and lets your brain fill in the gaps. I got some good chuckles from the jokes and quirky scenes, with a few actual laughs.

3.5/5

B Movie sci-fi classic

'I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I’m all out of bubblegum.”

How a 1980s sci-fi flick became an inspiration for Marxist tracts

I thought it was a movie about the longest wrestling match about putting on sunglasses in the history of cinema.

One of my favorite movies of all time, probably obviously by my avatar. That article above is trash, i couldn't get through it. The movie did have a political message in it and at the time it was said to be about Reaganomics, but it was bigger than that. During the Obama administration both John Carpenter and Roddy Piper stated the movie was a documentary and it was more relevant at that time than it was when it came out.

I thought the movie was made because Carpenter was bet he could not make a movie with a wrestler as the star and use sunglasses as the MacGuffin ;)

the torrent for this movie download finally finished!
It sat at 12% for three weeks, then at 32% for until yesterday, then today it found another tracker and finished!
hopefully will have time to watch this weekend, movie is 4 1/2 hrs long

I think this is close enough to fit in the theme of this thread, even though the original Robocop is not exactly long forgotten.

I just finished watching the Starship Troopers series

Starship Troopers (1997)
Hero of the Federation (2004)
Marauder ( 2008) animated
Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012) animated

Animated series
Roughnecks Starship Troopers Chronicles, The complete campaigns (2000)

animated series, graphics dated, but good story lines

got the dvd's from ebay

all loosely based on Heinlein's book Starship troopers,
the movies are from an unrelated script called Bug Hunt at Outpost Nine merged with Heinlein's book

Just purchased this:
Babylon 5 seasons 1 to 5
The Movies (5)
Crusade spinoff

Never able to see all the episodes when originally broadcast, one of the original series with a story arc

Just watched "The Gathering" :thumbs up:

The Great Forgetting

A case could be made that, in addition to being one of his era’s most popular singers, Crosby is the single most popular movie star in Hollywood history. Certainly he is in the top ten. Today he survives in the memory of specialists and historians and suchlike boffins. To the broader populace, the words “Bing Crosby” no longer have meaning.

Nice. I have those sitting on a DVD shelf.

If yours is packed like mine, the movie box omits the "Legend of the Rangers" TV movie that was supposed to spin off a 3rd B5 series that didn't happen (I have that one on a separate disk and box), and whatever "Lost Tales of B5" episodes were made. (Which, ultimately, I think there was only 1 -- and I've never seen it.)

I greatly enjoyed that series, though. The first season is a bit rough to go through. A whole ton of unresolved points that don't have much frame of reference until some time in the 2nd season or later. But it ends up being worthwhile as it starts coming together.

I thoroughly enjoyed re watching the B5 series. The graphics don't look dated,

I think this was the first TV series to tell a story in an continuous story arc from season 1 to 5, They didn't know if season 5 was going to be renewed, with their broadcast network gping out of business. so a season 4 ending and then a season 5 ending.

I found the Garibaldi, Londo , G-tar interaction the best part of the story. Didn't like how the Lennier arc ended.

I'll have to look for the "Legend of Rangers" movie, you're right, it's not in my set

I found the "Lost Tales of B5" on ebay but didn't purchase it, as I thought it was the cast reminiscing about making B5 at a comic con convention, which is included in the boxed set as extra commentary

still have 3 more movies to watch, then Crusade

No, they certainly don't. Though it would be nice if they ever found a backup of all the assets and layouts and re-rendered them widescreen to fit with the rest.

There were a lot of changes they had to make for both TV contracts and Michael O'Hare's (Sinclair) illness. Honestly, I think it was all a net positive, though I do wish Season 4 wasn't quite so rushed.

Yeah, me too. And a lot of the Londo and G'Kar interaction wouldn't have happened in the original draft. I think those two really anchored the series.

It really is a shame how many key actors in the series passed away after filming. I don't really see anything else being able to be filmed in that universe, unless it is with a completely different staff and tucked in that time after the time of the show, but before the decommissioning of the station.

I have a feeling had the Rangers series been made, it might have filled in Lennier's story with a bit more redemption. It would have been set in the right time period for that.

Yep, the movies and Crusade are kind of the part I'm fuzziest on remembering. I don't think I quite finished those last time I watched it through, either. (nearly a decade ago) I was also going to pick up the Lost Tales DVD for wrapping up that time, but never did. They were cheap on Amazon back then. No idea, now.

There's a lot of conclusions to the show, but I think my favorite is the Season 4 wrap.

Speaking of Children Of Men, I wonder how far a reach that one had? Overall it is probably now that widely know since AFAIK it was straight to DVD. You all here probably have seen it, but in case you haven't i highly recommend it. I was very surprised how good it was on first viewing for a straight to DVD release.
