Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour came out in support Friday of an amendment to the state constitution that would define life as beginning at the moment of conception, saying that he cast his absentee ballot for the measure despite struggling with its implications.

Mother Nature indited for millions of miscarriages

I've read up on this personhood bill. It would effectively outlaw all but barrier methods of contraception, so no more pill, no more IUD and if you're raped and or the victim of incest, yeah, you're going to have to carry to term. Same goes for those foetuses that due to defect wouldn't last an hour outside the womb. Oh and if you end up with an ectopic pregnancy, say your prayers because you are now in for a long, lingering, painful death.

And yeah, expect more "murder" charges levelled against women who miscarry.

It's a brave new world, where women are to be reduced to mere incubators under this law.

Give yourselves a round of applause gents, because this law is actually more draconian and anti women than even those that exist in Saudi Arabia - there at least they allow for medical complications.

if the women of Mississippi are smart they will refuse to have sex with ANY man until this bullsh*t is thrown in the garbage where it belongs. In fact, I would get out of the state and leave the entire place with only men so they have nothing but their hands and each other to diddle.

I like this idea. Thrown in the garbage is where it would end up and quickly.

If you all hate it that much, must be a half way decent bill. ;)

Republicans appear more focused on making more poor instead of making more jobs. This action is one of many indicating that.

Again, this needs to be clarified. If a woman gets an abortion, she is a noble defender of women's rights. If her boyfriend/husband kicks her in the stomach and the baby miscarries, he is charged with murder.

There is a disconnect here that everyone wants to ignore because of the political and moral explosiveness of it. If the unborn baby isn't a person, the boyfriend/husband can't be charged with murder and can only be charged with assault.

Why, are they now supporting Obama's policies?

I wish the answer was as easy as blaming 2 years of leadership of 1 person because the problem could be easily solved. It is a decades old problem where no one could solve it in a couple of years.

It has been (almost) 3 years now. I hope this helps.

if a person needs an abortion it's none of anyone's business. Period. you shouldn't even be aware of it.

if a person wishes to be pregnant and is hoping for a baby at the end of this process (no guarantee even in this age of advanced medicine) and someone interferes with HER choice and privacy by attacking her PERSON, only an idiot wouldn't understand this is a criminal act.

people who think women are slaves usually have trouble with this concept

Pedantism doesn't help resolve a 30+year problem. Obama, or had it been Mccain, are like switching pitchers in the last inning when the team is losing. That losing team is the 99% of Americans.

So you are saying the law should say a woman gets to decide when a baby is a human? If a women gets assaulted on the way to an abortion mill and miscarries, the person assaulted is only charged with battery and not murder?

Sounds like everything is so cut and dried to you that full term partial birth abortion is A-Ok or delivering a live birth child and killing it before the doctor cuts the umbilical cord is OK too because life is so black & white? I guess the women who give birth to live babies in public bathrooms and let the babies drown in the toilet is OK too.

Everything is so neat and tidy in a black & white world.

-Edit-
Keep in mind that I think the Mississippi amendment is probably off base.

McCain did not look like all that good of an alternative Obama, I said it then. In hindsight I can't see how McCain could have been worse than Obama. Obama is the worst president of my lifetime, including Carter, and possibly the worst president of all time.

McCain would have driven us straight into a depression.

Unemployment in Florida appears to be nearly twice as bad as Minnesota. Add in I work in computers and with DBAs unemployment of .2% here there are some differences that color both our views differently.
