There's classified info that shouldn't have been revealed in the article. Its one of those secret "non-secret's" everyone knew who was behind it, but it was ALL speculation

Why does it matter? Breaking the German Enigma machine cipher was a big advantage during WWII. It was a well kept secret until the mid-1970s. What's the point? We were happy to help many countries obtain mint-condition German Enigma machines for their cryptographic needs after the war ...

So even if the Iranians know every single detail of the cyberwar we're currently waging... and its doubtful they did, Flame has been around since 2007 ... not every other possible future target does!

He media control machine is quite awesome. I thought that the last administration had it down but this one has improved on it. Of course, the media machine and the people behind the policies may just happen to be all the same people as under the last administration ...

Just want to jump ion here because Hollywood has confused the facts for some people but it was the British that captured and deciphered the Enigma machine.

It was a jointly held secret ... that remained a secret until the 70's

and there was more than one model of Enigma machine

Iit was the Bombe that was used to decoded Enigma messages
It was Mass production of the US Navy bombe by NCR that contained 16 four-rotor Enigma-equivalents which made realtime decoding of messages possible

If you want to keep a secret now, don't tell Obama

Obma's getting Russian campaign donations for that now ;)

I read the Ars Technica article. I may be wrong, but isn't that "admission" from an anonymous source? Hard to say what to make of that. Sure some speculate that Obama is trying to make himself look like a "badass", but I'd be more worried about the negative implications and there are plenty. You'd think having Osama shot in the head would be "badass" enough. That's like winning the actual World Cup and then bragging about how well you did in EA Sport's FIFA Soccer game. :rolleyes: Something just doesn't add up.

My first thought that it was a favour to the Israelis - Obama claims that the cyber attack was his idea which takes the heat off of Israel and presumably there is a tat somewhere for that tit like not starting anything awkward before the elections.

Do you really think Israel is feeling the "heat" over this? I don't think they give a shit really. The US would have more reason to avoid ownership of Stuxnet than Israel.

Sounds plausible, but the Jewish lobby is asking for far more than just anti-Iran malware right now. As awesome as Stuxnet was, what they're demanding now are some things to go boom and that's what they're looking for the POTUS to deliver. I don't believe such a leak would satisfy them at all.
 
i don't see how this is a win for obama to admit this which makes me wonder why someone would... it doesn't make him look like a bad ass, but rather a douchebag if it actually infected civilian computers world wide... eh... sounds like some israeli supporting republican lower down on the food chain releasing this non story...

Yes, I think they are. You won't see it in our news but worldwide the star of David is fading. Public opinion is more negative towards Israel now than it has been in decades. Unleashing stupidly dangerous technologty that can take down industrial and power control system (like nuclear power stations etc.) is the kind of irresponsible power projection from Israel that adds to the impression that it is a rabid dog of a nation that doesn't give a damn what happens to the goyim, so long as the Jews get what they want. Saying that Israel is working with the US on this helps them shed the stigma of being a rogue nation (at least in cyber warfare). The US is a perpetually tarnished brand world wide but everyone knows that it can't yet be brought down but Israel is the little shit that thinks it's "all that" because his Uncle Sam gave him a bunch of guns but the kids in the playground are starting to think that it might be time to teach him a lesson and then all pretend that they don't know who pushed him off the school roof.

I don't think they asked for it. I don't think they really care. I think Obama did them this favour they didn't ask for so that he could lean on them as ungrateful little shits if they did anything else inconvenient. The newspaper stuff is all theatre for public consumption but I bet the back channels are abuzz.
