New Car time?

Neither car was famous for their great interiors, quite the opposite actually. They should have contrasted the old-school exterior with a slick and modern interior. And any status car that doesn't have projector headlights == FAIL!
Retro having been around 7-8 years needs to be over. And yes doing the interior retro was stupid. The gauge with a thousand points on it so you can never tell how fast you're going makes little sense. One of the slick dashs comes on the new Dodge Dart. Cars should have a dash that's selectable if not programmable. Grandpa can have his 60s Dart gauges back. Gen Y can have something more cutting edge. Actually I'd wish I could get interior dimensions for the Dart. It might be worth a look. Even if the first year of an Italian x Dodge vehicle sounds scary. Though I'm old enough to remember the old FIAT days.

Projector headlights - in my book all wrong for the Stang/Camaro. That lighting feels more upscale European sedan to me. They should just have headlights and turn signals and nothing else. Even the sequential tail lights bother me a bit. Yeah a throw back to the late 60s but too flashy for my tastes. OTOH I like interior lighting. As long as there's an off. There' something comforting about setting the fuzz buster and turning off all the interior lights, including gadges in the middle of no where America.

I don't know, these headlights look pretty bad ass to me:

Projectors are great for many reasons. My dad's KIA has projectors for Pete's sake! When cheap cars have projectors, then so should iconic cars like a Camaro or a Mustang (and I believe Camaros may come with them, but it's not an option on the stang? Not sure). But not all projectors are equal, my sister's Infiniti takes it to a whole new level of awesome (and in fact, Infiniti projectors are what all the Prelude guys seem to be upgrading too these days).

The mustang in that photo looks funny because you have those, what are they, fog lamps? The fog lamps are bigger than the head lamps and they seem more prominent. You're right, it just doesn't work there. I see what they were going for, but it would only work if all 4 lamps were about the same size. Now something about that front end looks aftermarket. And when stock looks aftermarket, something is seriously wrong.

You know what I miss from the 80s and wish would make a come back? Popup/rollup headlamps. Modern design is to make the lamps big and distinctive. On some cars that's nice, like the new Audis for example, but in general I still tend to prefer the hidden lamps. I got a kick out of raising my Supra's lamps for some reason.

I did run Volt numbers. If gas stays where it is for 4 years one I'd break about even with buying the Chevy Cruize. I'd be a bit ahead if I could convince my employer to put in a charging station, even if I paid for the electricity. Not bad. Though the Volt seemed cramped for my needs.

Is the Volt really viable for our Northern climate? Turning the heater on is likely to force you into gas burning mode. I'd imagine same goes for AC in the summer.

What is this "Northern climate" you speak of? If the winter rain bothers you on your daily commute then put the top up. Otherwise put the top down. No other weather related actions required.

Well, Faethor doesn't live my the ocean like SOME people. ;) Mild as our winter has been lately, we're still likely to want to turn on the heater.

I have a couple of people I know with a Prius that drive it year round. I understand the new Hybrid Fords are coming with a new heating and cooling system for the batteries. So, I'm not sure why the Volt wouldn't have something like that to ensure it's operation during the cold winters. Plus as the Volt has a gasoline engine at worst one would get around 40MPG by running that engine sooner.

Update...

Ahh the Journey continues. I had a couple dealers write up a trade-in deal. It was crap for my car. Net $1,200 for a Saab 92x that's fairly beat up with 190K miles on it. I finally did Craigslist it and got $3,400. Well better than a dealer would do so I'm satistfied.

Final throws. I hope to make a decision within a week. It's kind of coming down to the CX-5 and Kizashi. I'm leaning Kizashi simply because of my history of more unique vehicles. (IH Scout, 99 Cobra, Spitfire, 92x) Though the negative is they can be a bugger to find.

In this Journey my wife declared heated seats is a must. Spoiled! Which only makes life harder as that option typically only comes in top of the line trims...

2010 Suzuki Kizash SLS it is. The price was OK $18K for 50K miles on what was a $29K MSRP car. The SLS is fully loaded. The wife wanted heated leather seats. It was the used SLS or a new leather SE for $4K more. That $4K isn't much but with the other upgrades - fog lights, Bluetooth, parking assist, moonroof, rain detecting windshield wipers, paddleshifters, Rockford Fosgate 10speaker system and radio it was enough to sway the used vehicle.

Congrats. Not familiar with that vehicle but sounds good. Post us some pics!

Sat was my first day driving. Reset the average Mpg for a trip between work and home. It ended up reading 35.2mpg. Now typically those counters are off but I suspect it'll be 30-31mpg for my typical use. Though I already miss a stick.

Not a good photographer myself. I'll get some taken. Here are some prettier advert pics. http://fanaticars.com/young-and-dynamic-with-suzuki-kizashi/
