One family leaves Michigan every 12 minutes

I really do hope this is good news for Detroit (I mean more of these crooks leaving)

Oh, absolutely. The Detroit City Council is completely dysfunctional. Monica Conyers was one of bottom three worst on it, so her resignation is nothing but good news.

As for other good news... Detroit is number one again! (Oh, wait, being number one in murders per capita is bad... Ooops.)

According to the FBI, the total number of murders Detroit reported last year is 306. That put Detroit behind Baltimore in per-capita murders, at 36.9 murders per 100,000 residents. But Detroit Police Department spokesman Rod Liggons says that number undercounts the total.

"Three-thirty-nine is our actual number," Liggons, who did not immediately return a call from ABC, told The Baltimore Sun.

The higher number pushes Detroit's rate to 37.4 murders per 100,000 residents, making Detroit the deadliest city with more than 500,000 residents in the nation.

Now, through a little cross multiplication, those statistics would be based on assuming Detroit's population at around 830,000 people.

Interestingly, this number corresponds with the actual estimated population cited in the allegations of Detroit having more registered voters than eligible residents, rather than the "official" population estimate.

Strange things happen here....

Last year there were 1,607 murders in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico

 Wow... That figure really puts into focus what's a dangerous US city look like compared to world-wide... Apparently there are only approx 1.5 million people there, so that would make a per capita rate about three times that of Detroit.

There is also a serial killer and/or copy cats in Juarez who've been killing women since 1993, over 800 found dead, over 3000 missing

A police-linked kidnapping industry, Mexico wide. In a poll 5% of the country's 106 million people report having been a Kidnapping victim or personally knowing one.

almost none of the murder cases are ever solved.

Wow.... This dug up and resurrected an old thread! :D

But, yeah, the dome-less Silverdome has been a disaster for quite some time. Honestly, it isn't nearly as bad as I expected, considering this is now the 2nd (or 3rd? I forget) full season it has been without a roof on a structure designed to have one.

Truthfully, it looks better without the roof. And the interior building doesn't look much worse than when I was last in it. (end of 1999 -- New Year's party. Which, I believe, was the same year the Lions left, though don't quote me on that.)

Apparently, the timeline is now sometime this year that next plans for the structure will be announced.
