I'd say yes nature and nuture determine Communism and Canibalism. Atheism clearly does not determine if one is going to be a Communist or a Canibalist. It can't. There's no dogma.

Rev Jim Jones was a communist but never ate children
Marquis de Sade wasn't a communist, and never ate children

Dahmer's househould was supposedly a strict Christian one.
Jim Jones was training as a minister and held church services, that's where he got the Reverent title.
Marquis de Sade was left to Nuns in a Christian Convent, later raised by his Clergyman uncle and educated in a Jesuit school.

So it was only after embracing atheism that they allowed themselves to fully evolve and express their hidden talents

Rev Jim Jones was the minister of the Peoples Temple, he preached Marxism, and gave out Kool Aid

Hayek: I think they could exist as some sort of medieval system. They could exist in that form with a great deal of starvation removing excess population. It's all a question of why should an economy not continue to exist. But whatever economic advance Russia has achieved was, of course, achieved by using the technology developed by the West. I know that the Russians would be the last ones to deny it.

Perhaps is the best we can offer.

One reason is we can never truly know what was in their soul or when this changed. Dahlmer was one that is fairly mixed. Religious upbringing and religious at the end. Did he give up God before he hurt others or after? Or did he really give it up at all?

The other reason is it's clear that atheists are not the only group that harm others. It's not as if Christians haven't tortured, killed and committed genocide.

Might be good if we could have a Soul detector device so we could measure if people really are religious or not during this time. People lie so we can't always go by their words. This will never work as the soul is an imaginary construct.

If Totalitarianism is wrong, immoral, or corrupt then religion, and especially Judaism/Christianity/Islam, is the most corrupt. No one elected SkyDaddy he is a self imposed dictator. No one can actually use freewill in situations where his dictates apply. One must do what he says or be tortured for an eternity. Worst of all if these rules are immoral, which they often are, we cannot over throw his totalitarian regime. So one is stuck being immoral to avoid torture.

Even worst SkyDaddy appears to have no actions here. Sure he supposedly tinkered around a few times. But, the true reward is only handed out after we die and in no way do we ever get to make it right or try again. Nothing less than an inflexible totalitarian dictatorship,

The worst part is these rules are so unclear and communicated so unclearly that we have various types of Gestapo, they call themselves clergy to hide the true bad nature of their existence, running around telling us the rules do or don't apply or may even be optional. And there's no way to be sure which, or if any of the Gestapo got it right. The result is all the Gestapo are lying that they have knowledge this unknown. The result is religion itself is lying to others to exert their own power and is truly one of the greatest immorals foisted upon man.

I appreciate your fear of dictators they have definitely done some of the worst things ever. If you step back and apply those same traits to your religion you will find your God to be the greatest of all dictators.
 
and don't forget that dictators can be gotten rid of. It sometimes takes a few years, but that douchebag 'god' is hanging around for about 2000 years and I'm getting mighty tired of him. Like a dead fish he's stinking up the place.
