Political Jokes 2021 and 2022

I really wish it would mean the rich would get taxed. But sadly, it doesn't look like it

The Reedy Creek Improvement District collects about $105 million a year to operate services inside Reedy Creek, according to Randolph. So Disney, in effect, taxes itself for such things as operating its own power plant, maintaining roads and providing fire protection.

"This is on top of other taxing authorities it sets in," Randolph said as part of a series of tweets he posted on this issue. "So Disney pays the same Orange County, local and state school taxes, etc., as all other properties inside Orange County. If Reedy Creek goes away, the $105 million it collects to operate services goes away. That doesn’t just transfer to Orange County, because it’s an independent taxing district. However, Orange County then inherits all debt and obligations with no extra funds."

That makes it sound like the changes would save Disney $105 million a year AND consequently Disney may have to scale back its business. That doesn't make a lot of sense. Did Disney write this?

Of course it doesn't pass even the simplest smell test. Disney's stock has taken a beating during this so investors know its really bad for them. The stock has been making new 52 week lows on the news.

I don't give a rat's behind about disney.

this isn't about saving THEM money. It's about causing chaos for the people living in that area.

Disney operates like a county government, building and maintaining municipal services like electricity, water and roads, and providing police and fire protection. It even taxes itself. The setup was intended to give Disney autonomy while also relieving the counties of paying for new services and infrastructure in what was once a remote and rural area.

"homeowners here could see property taxes jump by 20% to make up the difference. And even then, it probably wouldn't be enough to cover all the money that would be lost."

"Disney was in charge of ambulance services and fire services," reports WMFE's Prieur. "So if someone has a heart attack or a car accident, now it's up to the county to figure out how to handle that — and how to foot the bill.

I'm not even suggesting that the situation that was created in 1968 should just continue. But if they are going to change they shouldn't be shafting the people who live there. In this battle between corporation and government the losers are the public

In a way, I kind of agree. It's always the people who suffer, but I have to say that Disney's "woke" stance on indoctrinating kids kinda kicked off this spat. Keep in mind that the article above may be a bit one-sided though IMNSHO...

Removing Disney's self-legislation agreement would have never even been considered otherwise. Do I support the Governor's side in this? Dunno. Honestly, I think it was a spiteful reaction to Disney's change in politics towards kids, but it is what it is. Florida is a highly Republican state (for the moment until all the {bleep} lefties take it over) and as such generally exhibits zero tolerance for woke politics on any scale.

In theory though, the taxation of the people in that area doesn't simply disappear. The people will end up being taxed, probably the same as Orange County, by the county, and life (and services) will go on... Will the people "suffer"? Probably not, but there will be adjustment pains.

If anyone suffers here, it would probably be DeSantis himself. We (Lisa and I) really want to keep him as our Governor because -- with the influx of liberal refugees from NY and CA as well as all the illegals flooding in -- God only knows who would replace him, but *if* he has aspirations for a run as POTUS or even VP, all this silly argument does is *potentially* hurt his poll numbers...

Disney's change in politics towards kids
it seems to me this is a problem that doesn't actually exist

the only thing disney is trying to get kids to do is watch their films, buy their products and go to their amusement parks.
There is no such thing as "grooming" kids to be gay in Grammar school. As friends who happen to be gay have pointed out, THEY were "groomed" to be straight and that just never worked.

but we agree that desantis reaction is most definitely spiteful. MY issue is that disney will not be harmed. Regular people will. That really isn't very good leadership.

It's not the gay. The "gay" is total misdirection. It is the ideology that your sex is all a social construct, that it's all in your head and your "gender" is real. That males can be women if they say so (no-one much cares about FTM) and that what colour you are determines your personality and moral worth, and that teachers should be able to have sexual conversations with very young children and that schools should be able to keep anything that goes on between children and teachers and even the curriculum secret from parents. People would feel uncomfortable about this if it was happening in Christian churchs, they should feel equally uncomfortable when any other religions claim these rights too (and "critical" theories are religious faiths).

BTW - Queer is not gay. There is a whole bizarre ideology behind it. As with critical theories in general it's about breaking down meaning until thinking is impossible and only following doctrine on faith is tennable. These people are passionate and make no sense whatsoever. It's a cult pure and simple but many people miss it because they assume cults need to have gods. Everything is "Theory" and the theory is gibberish.

When the state established the Reedy Creek Improvement District in 1967 as an independent taxing district controlled by Walt Disney World, it gave it the power to build roads, sewers and utilities as well as the authority to set its zoning laws, establish its police and fire departments, and regulate its construction. The district can borrow money by issuing bonds to pay for services and that infrastructure and, while Disney must also pay property taxes to Orange and Osceola counties, the state also allows the Reedy Creek Improvement District to tax itself. The current tax rate is three times higher than the maximum amount allowed by cities and counties, Schumer said. Proponents of the bill “had some misconception that Disney’s getting some special property tax break for Reedy Creek,’’ said Scott Randolph, Orange County tax collector. “It’s not.”

Personally, I don't care. I refuse to tell other people how they should feel about themselves.
I judge people by what they say and how they behave. I don't care what they wear, if they feel as if they are male, female or something else. It's all irrelevant to me.

And, face it, when one communicates with people online, you can't tell what sex any one person is. You don't know what they look like, how old they are, if they are ugly or attractive. And so on. They are talking brains. Nothing matters but The Thoughts.

Disney is fighting the revoking of their special tax status. It's clearly not a boon to them.

Disney says Florida can't revoke its special status

Walt Disney World is firing back at Florida and Governor Ron DeSantis, claiming that he can't dissolve the theme park's special tax district following their move to do so last week in the wake of controversy about what he calls the company's 'wokeness.'

Walt Disney World is the largest private employer in the state and has a special status that essentially lets it run as its own municipal government on its property, called the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

OMG he is straight savage. If you know anything about this harpy, you'll get it right away
