Pope Benedict XVI resigns

I guess he wasn't the Anti-Christ after all. It will be hard for him to bring on the end of days if he retires.
 
Feb 5th I saw on HBO a great documentary "Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God"

I know about the horror but seeing the deaf people involved in this tragedy was quite moving.


it was clear that the pope (who was a cardinal at the time of his involvement) helped cover this up.

It's not just the church, it's any concentration of power. Remember the White House call boy scandal of 1989 and Lawrence King? Note what is going on in the UK these days regarding pedophiles in politics and the entertainment industry. There was a case a whole bunch of years ago that I think we discussed here about a small island somewhere where the entire leadership was sexually abusing people - and some people took that as an indication of what an uncivilized bunch these guys where but it's just a function of power. If you can do whatever you want and get away with it because you are above prosecution then there are lots of people who will take advantage of that and worse, a lot of people with dark desires are actually attracted to that power. Cops have it too. Dirty cops are protected just like dirty priests are. In a way it's unfair and dangerous to be concentrating on the church. It is a problem of power and secrecy, not faith.
 
It's fairly illogical that this being of infinite power needs an active communicator here on earth. But, that same entity refuses to lift a finger to heal Parkinson's disease (last Pope) or give them some extra longevity and usefulness beyond the average Joe. It seems to me we should be questioning if this almighty being is really all that almighty or just an uncaring SOB.

yeah.. call boy scandal...:confused:... so when people came forward, child victims, the powers that be shut down pretty much everything... much like the church... yep... proud moment in american history lost to the textbooks of Houghton /Mifflin

of course! and I'm not 'forgetting' that this happens all the time in other groups of idiots.

it's just that having experienced the bully nuns and insanity of religion for all of my childhood years I revel in every single public 'fall from grace' the {bleep} catholic church suffers

I had a pretty terrible experience with a church run school, but I don't hate *ALL* of them by default. They keep away from me and I keep away from them...
 
I don't hate every single 'catholic', just those that are abusive. The ones that are hypocrites and don't live Christian.
