Wanna save money? Philly estimates they saved over $2Million per yer by not prosecuting pot arrests.
And that is precisely what the US should do. End the war on drugs. Portugal did and their drug rates FELL!! (Plus they saved an awful lot of money).
Far too many people are in jail for "three strikes" laws for simple possession or selling small amounts of pot. The courts are choked with petty drug crimes and police departments use the war on drugs to buy military hardware and batter their way into the wrong house from time to time to shoot up kids and the family dog.
But, ending the drug war would end the profitability of illegal drugs and result in less people in jail and that would mean less money laundering for Wall St and less slave labour for Wackenhut (now called G4S and is now a British company so your taxes go to Britain to pay for locking up your prisoners - and so will the profits from using prisoners to work government contracts - Ha ha ha ha ha - but some people still think it's a good idea because they can't stand the idea that there are people making good wages and that there are other people who are paying for their crimes by nothing more than being locked up in a crappy little room for most of the day for years and years.
