I might be passing through Heathrow in 2011 but I'll be on my way to Greece. Don't know if I'll be able to swing a trip to "The North". But if you curry, send pictures.

And a snowy boarding Christmas to you.

Merry Christmas everyone...

I say "Merry Christmas", knowing of course that these days, I might be stepping on a politically correct toe or two, but the fact is that regardless of your beliefs, without Christ, there would be no Christmas. Without Christmas, there would be no holiday "season", just a day off to allow for New Years Day hangovers, which are decidedly not-very-Christ-like by nature.

So regardless of your views on the subject at hand, enjoy it for what it's worth, and take care of friends and family as I'm sure they'll be thinking of you this season.

Warmest Regards,

Wayne

And that's my real beef with Jesus. If it hadn't been for him then instead of going to church on the 25th we would still be celebrating Saturnalia - one solid week of drunken orgies. But-no, the Roman government went and changed the state religion and now we are left with one sucking day of an extra-long church service.

Fortunately the pagans didn't give up on the eating and drinking and giving presents and decorating. It's a good thing the pagans were so stubborn.

However, I've no problem with "Merry Christmas". It's historically significant. Nonetheless, people still pay more attention to the old pagan stuff than the Roman state religious observation.

Even non-godists like Christmas. It's Tim Minchin but it doesn't have any swearing or references to genitals - it's just a nice sentimental song.

as you all know I hate PC.

to those who are catholic (or something similar), Merry Christmas!
to those not close, Happy Holidays!
to those who are atheists, Happy Solstice!
to those with a sense of humor, happy Festivas!

For the Romans December was the 10th month, New Years was March 1st the start of the war season!!

and the time period between Jan 1st to March 1st wasn't named, it was just 61 more days of winter

each month had 3 reference points
the Kalends when you paid interest on your debts
the Nones
the Ides the middle of the month

Remember the trenches at Christmas, 1914. It's a lesson in human nature. Wars come from the top, not from the people who are told to fight them.

Merry Christmas everyone. Christmas for me marks the end of all that crazy running around buying people that perfect gift, and the beginning of the running around to by myself that perfect gift. But today, it's a day to relax and spend it with family and good food. Wish you all the best and may 2011 be the best prime numbered year ever! Or at least better then 2003.

@metalman

I hope it wasn't Christians that made that parody. Looks like we may have a case of folks not knowing the difference between immaculate conception and virgin birth.

Definitely not a Christian site.
Parody of current Newspaper reporting style hits all the hot topics.

Herod successfully implements 8th trimester abortion plan

You lucky bugger. I haven't been there since 1999. I hope there won't be any major protests or mayhem. Unless of course, that's why you're going.

I was hoping that by then it would have turned into a tourist industry. I figure it won't be long before some entrepreneurs start selling mollys for a couple of Euros a throw. Good fun.

Something tells me they already do.

So how long you going for? Is it cheap to go to Greece these days? My cousin was just visiting from Northern Greece, she just left to go back today. She's considering moving back to Winnipeg. What parts are you planning to visit?
