A man who is making far less then what they are making. Class warfare baby! Rich gotta pay! See how wonderful Class Warfare is?
The rich aren't paying here. In fact Verizon is making profits hand over fist and is demanding the employees that generated the profit to take a cut? This ensures more money for the top end where the rich truly are. So as the rich float up the middle class workers here slip down. The result is less expendable money for the families. As a result the economy that slows down as the families have to cut back. Alas, Dammy someday you might realize the policies you espouse are exactly the ones that are tanking our economy.

You make far less than your average phone monkey?

Right now, that is correct. Those rich Verizon union bastards! Make 'em PAY! Hey, this class warfare is fun!

Because wiping out the middle class and destroying the very tools to get you a better deal has worked out so well for you so far, hasn't it?

Wiping out the middle class is multi stage operation. Strangling them with debt, making the money they earn worthless, create regulations that prohibit them from making money, and then finish them off with inflation is the key to Progressive's long sought victory over the middle class. Obama is about to be able to take that victory lap before he leaves the White House, mission accomplished! Soros and the other global elites must be so proud of their man, Obama!

I can take this Class Warfare to my advantage: Why should I care what those rich Verizon employees get or don't get, they make more then me. See the problem yet for Progressives using the tired old Class Warfare scam? In this declining country, being rich is subjective to the local conditions. Al Gore use to say if you earned a million dollars during your life time, you were RICH. Therefore, why should any of us be concerned about people making more then what we personally do? In Class Warfare, we are supposed to cheer those making money in their down fall to our own economic level.

I met Mark Thomas once.

I started that meeting viewing him as a hero.

I left it thinking that he was a bit of a dick.

Never meet your heros!

Excellent advice.

Had similar disappointing experiences, usually with musos.

We are on the edge of the second great depression and these idiots don't get it. I'd be more then happy at what they are being paid to take a modest pay cut and to benefits.

Whilst Verizon make $6bn profit?
And you think it's the workers who are the "idiots" that "don't get it"?

Unless you are profiting from the top salaries earners in Verizon it's fairly unlikely you can.

Your economic views appear to be fairly myoptic. These employees make and spend money in your state. According to Verizon Florida about $249Million in salaries for the 17,6xx employees, btw. The linesmen are asked to take about a 12% wage cut. (Again in a company that's making a profit so it's not like it's hurting Verizon.) If we pulled about $30 Million from the spending in Florida would that impact you?

And the USA is the society in which you live. If we continue to promote policies which allow companies making Billions cut worker salary we will get what we sow. Aka the Death of the American middle-class that the Republicans have driven so hard to acheive since the 60s. So yeah if you really don't care about your society go for it. Though one might ask why do you live in the USA if your attitude is to not care about the countrymen that comprise your nation? You continue to complain about the Elites and now you ask us why you should care if someone is Elite? Appears to me you do, even while the details in what you want directly supports the Elite minority.

And then the next time? And the next time? And the next time? Would you really be happy if you were working for someone who you knew was making increasing amounts of money from his business coming to you to ask you to let him keep more of the money that he pays to you? Is that even just?

If they don't want the reduced pay, I'll take it - is the same sort of short sighted self interest that killed US manufacturing because Chinese products were cheaper. This "every man for himself" is what causes the race for the bottom and is what causes the very situation that the US finds itself in. There is a lack of social cohesion that allows this to happen and it is encouraged. If you don't trust your neighbour because he is a different colour or he has the wrong god or he has a different opinion about gays than you do (or he IS gay) etc. etc. etc. then you feel less allegiance to the people in your community and feel the need to look out for number one rather than pull together.

The lack of social cohesion is part of the point behind the video "Agenda" that Red linked. On that level I agree that is a problem, but the reason I think Agenda is part of the agenda is that it works to psychologically reenforce those divisions.

I'm all for Union reform but to be willy nilly against all unions...I don't get that at all.

I've never belonged to a union because artists (and I mean visual or post effects which is what I have done for years) do not Have a union. I don't get benefits, or a pension. I don't have insurance. I just work and make whatever I get. and I have never used welfare because I just don't feel comfortable with that. But that's me and I have no trouble with others using it to prevent being homeless.

that said, my mother is in a union. And even though she often objected to her union going on strike because she thought is wasn't good for children to be out of the classroom, if it wasn't for that union she would not have a pension. She would not have insurance. To give a concrete example, when my mother had to have an operation a few years ago she would have been dead if it wasn't for those union benefits. and she flipping PAID for it. Years of working and contributing to society in a thousand ways that no politician or bigshot ceo to any company could ever measure up to.

and just because she is retired don't think she is STILL not contributing......I've been there when a neighbor drives up to her as she is weeding her garden and Personally Thanks her for making the area Beautiful. She is keeping the value of the neighborhood higher than it was with the previous owner and people around here notice. When she first moved to her home here she was part of the civics group who meet every month.

if you hate unions you are in effect not respecting people like my mother. people who have made this country great...and continue to try - despite the idiot congress

Well, you want them to have cuts to their pay, benefits and rights, whilst their firm rakes in multi-billion profits. So clearly you do care.

Why should you? That's a very good question that you should perhaps ask yourself and reflect on. ;-)
