Johnny 'Mr. Wrestling II' Walker dies at 85

MACON, Ga. — Johnny Walker, best known to fans as Atlanta's "Mr. Wrestling II," with his bionic knee lift, has died at the age of 85.

Walker was a popular star in Championship Wrestling from Florida and Georgia Championship Wrestling throughout the 1970s and 1980s and was religiously featured to perform at the Macon Coliseum on Tuesday nights.

Under the persona of Mr. Wrestling II, Walker was able to win and hold many individual and tag team titles in the NWA and throughout professional wrestling during his 35-plus years in the sport. Walker made his debut in 1955 and retired in 1990, but came out of retirement in 2007 at the age of 73.

At this time, the cause of death is unknown.

Coaching burnout, he was asked when then-Philadelphia coach Dick Vermeil quit in 1983, citing that cause?

“What’s that?” he said.

Did he ever have ulcers, he was asked when a player had them.

“I don’t get ulcers — I give them,’’ he said.

As the years went on, and the seasons drifted further behind him, he let up on that somewhat. In his late-70s, he’d greet you at his home with a hobbled step and say, “Don’t time me in the 40.”

DOLPHINS LEGEND JIM KIICK DEAD AT 73

Miami Dolphins Legend Jim Kiick passed away on Saturday at the age of 73. Kiick was a member of the 1972 Dolphins team that had the Perfect Season. He along with backfield running mate Larry Csonka were nicknamed “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” The Dolphins drafted Kiick in the 5th round of the 1968 AFL Draft. Legendary Dolphins personnel man Joe Thomas said they selected Kiick because of his quick feet. In 7 seasons with the Dolphins, Kiick rushed for 3,759 yards and 28 touchdowns. In an era where the running game was emphasized Kiick was an integral part of the Dolphins three-headed rushing attack along with Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris.
 
Joel Schumacher, Director of ‘St Elmo’s Fire’ and ‘The Lost Boys,’ Dies at 80

Joel Schumacher, director of films like “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “The Client” and “A Time to Kill” has died from a year-long battle with cancer, his spokesperson told TheWrap. He was 80 years old.

His films “Falling Down” (1993) and “8mm” (1999) competed for Palme d’Or and Golden Bear, respectively. His other credits include “Flatliners,” “The Lost Boys,” “Tigerland,” “Batman Forever” and “Batman & Robin,” as well as “Phone Booth,” The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Number 23” and most recently, two episodes of “House of Cards.”

Grant Imahara, Mythbusters Alum and Battlebots Judge, Dies at 49

Grant Imahara was an electrical engineer who dedicated his life to using his skills to make people smile. Beyond his time with the Discovery family, Grant was one of the few officially trained operators for famed droid R2-D2 within the Star Wars universe, he also engineered the Energizer Bunny's iconic rhythmic beat.

Grant was part of the Mythbusters team for 10 years, where his dedication to his craft and his ability to bust myths with the best of them brought tech to life for his fans. Some of his partners in Mythbusting sent out their condolences.



 
Galyn Görg dies, farewell to Fantastico actress and dancer on her 56th birthday

Also credited as Galan Gorg, Galyn Gorg or Gaylyn Görg, she was born in Los Angeles on July 15, 1964, the daughter of an actress and a documentary director. Raised in Hawaii and graduated in Liberal Arts at Santa Monica College, after appearing in the videos of “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top and “Body” by The Jackson, she moved to Italy where she enjoyed a period of popularity thanks to the two already mentioned varieties. In 1985 she was called to Fantastico 6 where she danced with Steve LaChance and had the role of co-host with Pippo Baudo, Lorella Cuccarini and Beppe Grillo. Two years later he took part in the Sandra Raimondo Show, on Canale 5.

The Thing Actor, 'Diabeetus Guy,' And Andy Reid Look-Alike Wilford Brimley Is Dead At 85

Famously, Wilford Brimley was known for his Quaker Oats ads and for telling people to eat the oats because "it's the right thing to do." He also was a spokesperson in the U.S. for diabetes, where he is known to a generation of people as the “diabeetus guy.” In 2008, he was even lauded by the American Diabetes Association for his lifetime advocacy. Yet, he had a rich career on the big and small screen as well, appearing in movies such as The Thing, Hard Target and The Natural. His last movie role was in 2017’s I Believe.
 
Molly Hatchet Co-Founder + Guitarist Steve Holland Has Died

Guitarist Steve Holland, a co-founder of Southern rockers Molly Hatchet, died on Sunday (Aug. 2), according to an announcement that emerged that day from his most recent band, Gator Country.

The musician, who formed Molly Hatchet with fellow guitarist Dave Hlubek in 1971, was the last surviving member of the group's early lineup as it appeared on their 1978 self-titled debut. Hlubek, singer Danny Joe Brown, guitarist Duane Roland, bassist Banner Thomas and drummer Bruce Crump have all since died.
