Two Sides To Every Story

And now, the President back-paddles, if only slightly, on the remarks he made. Gotta love politics. :pint:

As was stated earlier in this thread, Obama should have not offerred an opinion (at least at that time).

As far as I'm concerned, I don't see why police should be able to arrest you just because you're upset with them - even if you are yelling at them. It seems the instant you put a uniform on a man he gets an instant power trip. As a society we need to guard against this type of behavior, even when race isn't a factor, but especially when it is.

Sounds to me that he owned his statements and owned speaking before knowing all the facts. Definitely a different person in office from the last dude.

The only problem with "especially when race is involved", is it is used at every chance possible.

There're good cops and then there are these kind.

Generally speaking, since the police are public servants, they should be held to a high standard and where there is doubt it should always go in favour of the accused. That is how the system is supposed to work but it generally does not. The police are legally privileged and there is a great temptation to abuse that privilege. We've all seen the police trying to start riots in Montreal by dressing up as hooded thugs, and we've all seen the cops taser the Polish guy to death at Vancouver airport.

The police fake evidence all the time and often they feel justified because they "know" a guy is a bad guy so fake evidence to get the bust is considered just part of the game - but it's corrupt and cops should go to jail. Mind you, that might leave places like New Orleans and New York without any police at all. :)

Agreed, except you forgot to mention that the police started to change their story (and deviate from their own police reports AND internal investigations) once the video captured by a third party was revealed. It's incidents like these that should open people's eyes to what the coppers have been getting away with for years and years. Thanks to miniature video cameras in cell phones and YouTube things like this might get some exposure. Until of course they pass new laws prohibiting the video taping of official police work (I'm sure if they think hard enough they'll come up with some quasi viable justification for it) and the banning of YouTube.

In the UK it is already illegal to film or photograph the police. It is part of some anti-terrorism law. Here in Vancouver cell phones and cameras get confiscated by the police after incidents and the same is true in other parts. Remember the guy that was handcuffed and on the ground when he was shot by a cop in Calif(??) recently? The cops confiscated all the cameras and phones but didn't manage to get the ones that had already left on the LRT.

A lot of cops are dicks and try to get away with as much as they can and ride you as hard as they can. Many of the honorable ones quit when they find out what the force is like - or just go along and get with the culture... but that's what it is - a police culture.

I'm going to wear hidden camera's from now on
