Just heard this at dinner tonight. I, myself, have not read any of his novels, but the Italians at the table were saddened.
well, The Name of the Rose certainly made for an interesting film. I'll bet one has to read his books in Italian to really appreciate his talent.
As far as I know, having read the Dutch translations of his works, the contents of his books, the way it pictures history, is more than worthwhile on itself
