maybe he wasn't doing a "publicity stunt"

maybe he was JUST having a beer

Nice try C but no go. He didn't mind the press corps taking pictures of the great "beer summit". It was a publicity stunt.
Well it worked, the issue all went away and mostly because of the beer he chose to serve. Gotta admit, that's down right brilliant!
exactly

Obama sent out the message that racism is still alive in the USA (as many of us already know) - but instead of this turning into a city burning - and some of us recall THOSE days - it became an opportunity to chill out.

he's NOT brushing it under the rung as many public people would do, but took the air out of the race balloon. at least a bit by simply taking a different tact. This is something he's probably been doing most of his life. And I say this because I have talked to friends of mine who have had to deal with racism ALL the time. It gets boring.

handling racism in a creative manner is one reason I felt he was worthy to be president.

To each their own I suppose. It only became a "problem" that the media picked up on after the president "acted stupidly" (IMO) and called out the police for doing the same. Then our president creatively agreed that he could have "calibrated his words differently" once he figured out that he shouldn't have said anything to begin with. Let's also not forget the threats of lawsuits that ultimately became "it's time to move on", once (IMO) it became clear that there may not have been the racism that so many claimed early on. Remind me again who was potentially being racist?

But you are correct, it did indeed become an (white house opportunity to recover from a media driven) opportunity to chill out. :pint:
