Not the films. The series was on TV. They had nothing to do with the films.

ah! I probably ignored that series because of the name and just didn't want to jump into something that might be gory

Give it a try. Warehouse 13 reminds me of that show.

Just started watching HBO's Generation Kill. I never read the book but the series seems alright. It's about US marines during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. I finished watching episode 2 last night.

One odd thing about this show: No music. I was a huge Tour of Duty fan when I was a kid and the music really made that show. It kinda transported you to another time. But this show completely lacks that which gives it a very alienating effect. Of course, today's music kinda sucks anyway, so that's probably a good thing. :-)

I watched the whole series and there is one recorded piece of music in it - right at the very end. The rest of the songs are sung by the actors. I actually thought that added to the show.

So I finally finished watching Generation Kill. Honestly, not sure what to think of it, although if it's accurate in anyway at all, it reaffirms my beliefs of the invasion and completely wipes out the "humanitarian" justifications for the war.

Although they had the Rolling Stones reporter as the outsider we should have been able to connect with, there really was no central character aside from Sgt "Iceman" who is probably the only character I really connected with (favorite line: "no more country music!"). I did however get a kick out of "Captain America" and I wonder how many of them are running around Iraq.

The fact that this was written by the reporter embedded with the unit and three of the marines in the unit acted as consultants for the series does lend a fair bit of authenticity to the series. I didn't realize this until after I finished watching it.
