When every ink blot looks like racism

Racists see racism under every mushroom ... White Privilege!

'It's a me!, Mario!"

"The other notable omission is in the cast of characters’ diversity. After 30 years there are still zero Mario characters of color, a problem that Mario Kart 8 highlights by lining up all the characters on a single screen. When it comes to human characters, Mario Kart 8 is overwhelmingly white. Of the 29 drivers, 14 are human (including Toad and Toadette), and every single one of them is white. While it’d be atypical of Nintendo to introduce new characters into a Mario Kart game, it’s also where the deficit is the most obvious, and during play I found myself disappointed that Nintendo’s stable of characters so painfully fails to reflect the diversity of its audience."

faults with Malone’s analysis:

Though Malone counts Toad and Toadette as human characters, they technically belong to an entirely different species: the Mushroom People

Omits the green characters, Bowser and his children

Yoshi is a dinosaur

Lakitu is a Lizzard

Donkey Kong is a Ape

The Shy Guys are different colors

The Italians are stereotyped, they only know 1 trade, plumbing, but for white guys, they sure can jump!

That result actually crosses cultures. It's quite robust. (and that includes brown cultures).

Well to be fair to the Mexicans, when they think of "blanco" their thinking of ethnic Spanish, French, English, or Germans

Mexico never had much Irish Immigration, and the Irish that Immigrated to Mexico came by way of US after 1861
(Obregon = O'Brien )

the Irish have only recently been upgraded to "White People" status

In the social hierarchy of the 1800's, Black slaves had more social status then the Irish
