Urban Dictionary: "Chinese Algebra"


The Chinese did independently develop linear Algebra in the 10th to 12th centuries, and were able to solve some simultaneous equations using counting rod numerals on counting boards (rectangular arrays) in which numerical patterns revealed methods for solving solving linear equations. Chinese mathematics did not advance much after the 14th century and many of the earlier math treatises where only rediscovered in the 18th century.
