Another mass shooting

I know, if you continue reading the thread:

Well, if you must know, I mistook page 5 for the end of the thread. I was very confused how so many new replies snuck in before mine. Posting while brain-fried from looking over too many routing tables at work.

OK

I'd maybe tweak some of the details, like the arming 20% of teachers part. Why only 20%? Why not make it 100%?

100% wouldn't work in many parts of the country, especially deep blue cities. The teachers armed should be competent with a fire arm and psychologically stable. The school system and teachers union have created a toxic environment that pushes out the best and brightest. Their failures help create these monsters. But that's a subject for another time.

I'd propose teacher that want to be armed should be held to the same standards as armed security guards in the state of FL as an example. There is a very low threshold to get a Security 'D' license, which is a basic unarmed guard. A few days training and a simple test you can get a 'D' license. Armed guards require a Security 'G' license. This requires much longer class room training time and requires a competency test at the range. You have to be re-tested on the range annually to retain the 'G' license. Only teachers who want to and are competent enough to obtain a 'G' license should be armed. Those who do should get at least a small pay bump.

And the concealed part. How is it a deterrent if it's concealed? Much better deterrent if it's in full view.

In a school setting, concealed would be smarter for a few reasons. The biggest being the kids don't know which teacher is armed. If the kids know, a school shooter will know if they need to ambush someone before going on their shooting spree.

Sheriff: Armed officer at school never entered building during shooting

The armed officer stationed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., resigned Thursday after an internal review found he did not enter the school during last week’s deadly shooting.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel announced Deputy Scot Peterson chose to resign after Israel suspended him without pay.

“Scot Peterson was absolutely on campus through this entire event. He was armed. He was in uniform,” Israel said at a press conference.

“After seeing video, witness statements and Scot Peterson’s very own statement, I decided this morning to suspend [him] without pay pending an internal investigation,” he continued.

Israel said Peterson chose to resign as he had met the necessary requirements for retirement. The sheriff noted that the investigation would continue.

“We’re not going to disclose the video at this time, and we may never disclose the video, depending on the prosecution and the criminal case,” Israel said. “But what I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position — and he never went in.”

When asked by a reporter what Peterson should have done, Israel said the deputy should have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.”

Israel said the video made him “sick to [his] stomach” and left him feeling “devastated.”

“There are no words,” he said.

Scot Peterson needs to be criminally prosecuted. They also need to look closely into any possible dealings or communications in the days or weeks prior to the shooting.

I feel bad for Sheriff Israel, he's a good guy. He used to work under my father decades ago and is a good cop. He's been grilled for this and it isn't his fault.

FYI, here's a small boots on the ground report. Teachers at public schools have been coordinating and encouraging kids to leave school grounds for gun control "protests". Locally a group of teen thugs took advantage of this to go commit armed robbery at Little Caesars Pizza. I'd share a link, but it is being blacked out by local "news". The only thing local "news" is showing is kids crying demanding gun grabs.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you, "US Public School System".

Florida mental health agency examined Cruz in 2016, didn’t hospitalize him

A counselor at the school told the Florida Department of Children and Families investigators that a professional from the mental health facility had visited Cruz and "found him to be stable enough [to] not be hospitalized." The school counselor expressed concern with the department, according to the report, and said she and her staff wanted to "ensure that the assessment of Henderson was not premature."

Nonetheless, the Florida Department of Children and Families investigation was "closed with no indicators to support the allegations of inadequate supervision or medical neglect."

Security footage from school massacre scene was on 26-minute delay

Broward County Public Schools has not responded to CNN’s request for comment Thursday about the school surveillance system.

“Somebody would say, ‘He’s on the second floor,’ and we had guys on the second floor saying, ‘We’re on the second floor, we don’t see him.’ That’s when we figured out there’s a tape delay,” Pustizzi told the Sun Sentinel.

By 2:50 p.m., the suspect had already purchased a drink at a Subway restaurant inside a Walmart store and left on foot — four minutes before scanner traffic said the gunman was still on the second floor of the school.

Turns out it wasn't the fault of folk who didn't report the shooter after all.
It was because.... video games and movies.

I'm sure I've heard that before somewhere....

Nevermind, the video was posted by CNN so it's probably fake anyway.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Did Not “Miss Warning Signs” or Make “Mistakes”…

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) didn’t “miss warning signs” or make “mistakes” in not writing up reports. The Sheriff’s office did exactly what their internal policies, procedures and official training required them to do, they intentionally ignored the signs, and intentionally didn’t generate documents.

the 27 minute tape-delay in the CCTV system is not an “accident”, “flaw” or “mistake”. It is entirely by design. As standard Broward and Miami-Dade practice, when school law enforcement need to cover-up or hide behavior, they need time (when that behavior happens) to delete the evidence trail. As such the school policy -as carried out in practice- is more efficient with a 30 minute tape delay affording the school officer enough time to deal with the situation, then erase the recording of an unlawful activity.

A Broward County SRO must carry a political hat and be able to intercept behavior, modify his/her action based on a specific policy need, falsify documents, hide evidence, manipulate records and engage inside the system with an understanding of the unwritten goals.

I saw that and it is weak. There are a hell of a lot of factors before scapegoating video games and movies.

All bullshit. I trust Sheriff Israel to make the needed changes. He's relatively new in the office of Sheriff.

Keep in mind that the office of Sheriff in Broward is not supposed to be a political position, but they have to play politics to get elected and stay elected.

Peterson — named school resource officer of the year for Parkland in 2014

This guy has been an issue for BSO long before Israel. I trust the Sheriff to do some clean up after this event.
