Average Candian is richer than the Average American

dont have to run with a field with a gun to get dinner tonight?... thank your uncle sam
born in a hospital? thank your uncle sam
drive on a paved road to get to work? or even a county road? thank your uncle sam
enjoying the fact no foreign army has invaded your homeland? thank your uncle sam
didn't die from a multitude of diseases or get polio as a child? thank your uncle sam
the list could go on, but i won't... the fact is paine stopped just sort of telling the whole truth, we kinda owe government for our very lives, not just our place in society....

Who cares who founded which nation? And classical liberalism has it's roots in my country, but it doesn't make my country.
The people here and now living in my country make my country, not some fossils buried deep under the soil.
There may be laws and policies they left that are of great value in the sense of knowledge of argumentation, which is abstract enough to be still applicable today, but they always need to be subject to discussion.
In the USA there's always a divide over approach to the nation. On one side (best represented by the Democratic Party) is the American Ideal where 'We the People' work cooperatively to ensure 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'. This is opposed (best represented by the Republican Party) that 'We the people' are really just theifdoms, we can't cooperate, and all government can do is in the way of 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'. In this discussion is always a consideration of 'why' the nation was founded.

Personally, I see the nation founded on Liberal ideas. But, some of this is hard to suss out. For example, the 1700s didn't really have corporations as we have them today. Also, the 1700s didn't have automatic assult weapons, or nuclear missles. For another example, how they worded the 2nd ammendment 'For a well regulated Milita, the right to bear arms should not be infringed' may be stated in a different way. And, to no surprise, each side applies this logic selectively. For example, abortion was legal at the Federal Level and most States had abortions. But, now those Republicans who cry go back to the 'founding principles' always exempt abortion from that discussion and demand it be outlawed everywhere.

So yes people here and now make the rules. But, part of the discussion is always an attempt to shake of the corpse of a Founder and claim your version is 'better' because Washington's moldy corpse says so.

 that had not occurred to me, but that's funny.
after the guys got the electricity going again (we were at the front door watching) mom yelled THANK YOU !
:) So nice to hear that. I always aim to make people smile who use my product. Unfortunately, there often isn't much time for that, not if I want some private life that is...
Everything has to be finished yesterday and even then people are disappointed...:(

i loathe some of the things my government does (drone flights, jsoc), and has done(cholera laced blankets to the indians, ugh), but i also recognize its utter fixability... but it wont happen at the hands of the ungrateful and thats largely what republicans are... when the fire departrment puts out the neighbors house its dammit they should.. union controlled welfare leeches... when fire dept puts out their house.... angels from god... and a full blown miracle.... grow the fawk up... i live in a red state... you guys are dumbasses....

Personal property is the effect of society; and it is as impossible for an individual to acquire personal property without the aid of society, as it is for him to make land originally.

Separate an individual from society, and give him an island or a continent to possess, and he cannot acquire personal property. He cannot be rich. So inseparably are the means connected with the end, in all cases, that where the former do not exist the latter cannot be obtained. All accumulation, therefore, of personal property, beyond what a man's own hands produce, is derived to him by living in society; and he owes on every principle of justice, of gratitude, and of civilization, a part of that accumulation back again to society from whence the whole came."
-Agrarian Justice Part Three by THOMAS PAINE

....
Isn't the problem here Obama's less colorful use of prose?

my issue with this is that if i lived on an island, id have no need for the concept of rich and everything i had would be of my own hands and device... in that case id owe no one. rich would become a term id have no use for except in times of sheer madness from the solitude... seems like it doesnt really apply to the argument he makes, as the man on the island garners only his own benefit... sounds flowery... but... well... seems kind of lacking in the old logic grid...

There are simply certain things that people need in our lives that we need at that moment. Everything to the lowest bidder and no rules (Libertarism in the USA) is simply not a viable option. When you house is on fire, or your possessions stolen are you going to call around to the lowest bidder? When you laying on your back with a stroke are you going to pick up the phone find the cheapest ambulance and get competitive bids from all Drs and hospitals you might use? Or are you going to friggin' call 911 and hope you live?

One 'Ron Paul Republican' I recently talked to believes there should be no roads. Cuz them roads be socialism! The USA wasn't built for that. If you want a road on your land you should build it. Imagine how much fun it would be to drive that 10miles into work when you stop at everyone's property who has different rules of the road and different tolls to enter and leave? Or they decide to close down for 'winter' because they need to go to Florida with the other greyhairs. .. SERIOUSLY!

None of that matters. “Good” Republicans are mere useful idiots, providing scraps of cover for the radical authoritarians wielding the real power. The party is committed to public policy stance that is destructive, both of American prospects and those of folks all around the world. They must be driven so far from the political arena as to be destroyed, until whatever emerges from its wreckage, even if it persists in operating under the label “Republican” is utterly transformed from the catastrophic clown show we now watch in horror.

'I did it all myself'

The number one biggest service all businesses get and need is contract enforcement. Of course, that can be achieved without the state - check out the drug cartels to see how they do it.

However, businesses have been building their own government to replace our governments - things like the WTO and such. Those types of governments are what the big players are putting together - they don't like being beholden to people's governments.

What do you think the GOV is? some kind of cargo cult??

Mr Gaster pays taxes, you forgot the IRS agents auditing him

claiming GOV responsibility for the standard DATE and TIME?

RoflLg.gif

The standards for the date are actually from the Catholic religion; we use the Gregorian calendar — named for Pope Gregory XIII.

As for standard time, the current time zones were set by the railroads during the heyday of laissez-faire capitalism. They setup 4 time zones across the U.S. to make it easier to schedule train routes. Before that every city used local solar time.

Electricity???

GOV regulation is to guarantee an 8% Utility profit, no matter how badly their company is managed

And when the ‘GOV’ closes Coal-Fired Generating Plants with new EPA rules, the GOV is certainly NOT giving us “Reliable Electricity”.

Where did the very first GOV come from? Oh yeah, from Mr. Gaster’s taxes – which means, Mr. Gaster's taxes built the GOV, and NOT the other way around.

Progressives are a cargo cult
