Average Candian is richer than the Average American

It is a peculiarity of the development of American fascism that at the present stage it comes forward principally in the guise of an opposition to fascism, which it accuses of being an "un-American" trend imported from abroad. --Georgi Dimitrov, Seventh World Congress of the Communist International, 1935

"if fascism came to America it would come wrapped in the flag and whistling "The Star Spangled Banner."
--Harrison Evans Salisbury 1971

If fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag, waving the cross, and preaching free markets (trans. economic imperialism.) -- rshelton 1999

If fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a Orwellian slogan and quoted by progressives as "the truth"

all those quotes fit romney better than obama....

If the best price you can is only $50 how are you being defrauded?
That's how your hero George Soros makes his money
The best price is $100 but you don't know about it. There is a guy who does know that but he tells you that you can only get $50 so you sell it to him. He makes the $50 but you are too busy making the actual goods to find out about the this. On the other hand, if the end buyer found out who the manufacturer was and found out that he could get the product for half of what he is paying then he would also cut out the middle man - so buyer and producer are being taken to the cleaners.

The secret to making money is information control. If you found out who Mr $50 was selling to then you could cut him out - and he doesn't want that to happen.

If markets were completely transparent and everyone had perfect information no-one could ever make a profit. The middleman would make only what the cost is to move products from factories to markets and enough to eat. Big profit is only available where information is sparse and controlled by only a few.

A bit of a silly thread. First of all, how did this go from a "Why Canada Is Better" thread to a "Left vs Right" thread? Hmmm....

At any rate, everyone is more or less correct here. Yes, the workers are the backbone of any business, but it's a biological fact that not all humans are born leaders and those who are not leaders need to be lead. The fact that some times they are lead into the ground is besides the point. That's just how it is and it's not something we can just educate away.

i don't agree with any of that part... sorry... i currently have no leader, and don't feel i am one either. i do just fine. you can educate a human to be anything they want... not all leaders, in fact most leaders aren't actually "better" at anything... they usually just inherit their leadership roles by hook or crook....

I tend to agree with this. I feel I generally muddle along quite nicely without providing much leadership nor needing that much either. Occasionally a bit of guidance is helpful right enough.

As I have freelanced my entire career i have basically been my own boss (leader?). I control my time, decide when to wake up every day (generally 6AM), do whatever I want everyday and organize my time without anyone telling me boo.

this only works if a person is discipled. But it also doesn't fall into the general 'leader', 'follower' paradigm. human don't function well if they know they are being treated like mindless slaves.
A good manager is someone who lets everyone do the work they are best suited for and doesn't micro-manage. I speak from personal experience.

In other words a 'boss' is not some superior creature. if he/she doesn't do their job well they are useless.

Well, you don't really need followers to be a leader. Leaders just tend to be self starters more so then followers. And followers don't necessarily need to follow a particular person, they could follow the crowd or a trend, etc. And although the two terms are quite black and white, people aren't really so obviously there will be people in between (yes, I am guilty of over simplifying things a bit, but this isn't an educated discussion on sociology either). Still, if you look at society as a whole, it's quite obvious there are leaders and followers.

The main point I was trying to get across is that some people are actually comfortable with their roles and wouldn't want to switch either way. Or to put it more simply; some people actually like to follow.

people are born with different talents. each person should just figure out what those talents are, and use them to the best of their abilities. That is a sum meaning of life. to waste time worrying about one-up-manship is just silly.

@Metalman,

Thought you might be interested in this Wired : Steve Jobs article. NOTE - quite a bit is about he drove other people... and those other people built the products.

from a military stand point i was raised and reared to believe that the first man you threw a grenade at was the 1st luey, you charged the hill with the platoon sergeant. so much for leadership.... when i deployed to the first gulf oil theft my company commander was a mormon and while this was to be a later part of my story, he had an rotc officer appt, which means he got there because of his degree. i went into battle with a man, who had a degree in agriculture and was appt "in charge", and he spent the entire thirty days of predeployment, while the rest of us were readying equipment, trying to get out of the army on religious grounds....:D... leaders aren't born... they are made, by moments of fire, but many men, including their own children, will swing from their coat tails....IMHO

competition does "inspire" some people. It does nothing for me.
but then I am 'competing' only with myself, I suppose.

Competition doesn't really get much done. It's cooperation that does that. Set 500 guys competing to build a cathedral and all you'll get is small piles of bricks moving around - if you're lucky. To build anything of size the have to work together.
