Paul ‘The Butcher’ Vachon Passes Away At Age 86

Vachon began wrestling in the 1950s and spent time in a tag team with his brother Maurice Vachon. Together, they would become tag team champions in AWA and NWA. Vachon was also the promoter for Grand Prix in Quebec for its three-year run in the 1970s.

Following his promoter days, Vachon worked for World Wrestling Federation between 1973 and 1985. His last pro wrestling match took place in 1987 before he was inducted in several Hall of Fames.

Paul was one of thirteen children. In addition to Maurice, their sister Diane also wrestled as Vivian Vachon. Paul’s adopted daughter was the late Luna Vachon. “The Butcher” battled several cancers over the last few decades.

OLE ANDERSONWRESTLING LEGEND DEAD AT 81... Original Four Horsemen Member

Wrestling legend Ole Anderson -- who helped form The Four Horsemen in the 1980s -- has died at 81 years old.

The WWE confirmed the sad news Monday evening ... remembering him in a statement as "a prolific and decorated tag team wrestler" who had a "hard-nosed style and gruff demeanor."

Michael Jones, best known as WWF's Virgil and his work with the 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase, dead at 61

Michael Jones, who was best known as Ted DiBiase's bodyguard Virgil in WWF in the late 1980s and early 1990s, has died at age 61. News of Jones' death was initially shared by Mark Charles III, a wrestling referee and friend of Jones.

"My dear friends, it is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more," Charles wrote on Facebook. "Virgil passed peacefully at the hospital this morning and I ask that you pray for him and for his family. May his memory be eternal!"

Fun fact about Michael Jones. He was brought into WWF as "Virgil" as a rib at Dusty Rhodes, who at the time was the booker for the competition WCW. Dusty's real first name was Virgil. When Michael Jones later went to work for WCW in the late 90s he was initially given the name "Vincent", as a rib back at the owner of the WWF Vince McMahon. Late in his WCW career they renamed him "Shane", who was Vice McMahon's real life son who was getting involved on TV for the WWF.

WTF?? He was only 35! No cause of death given, but "foul play is not suspected".

Depends on the cause of death and if there's a family history of heart disease.

Depends on the cause of death and if there's a family history of heart disease.

With the way NFL screens players these days, any heart issues may preclude someone from playing. I've seen through local media that former teammates and friends of his say no chance of suicide. Channing Crowder told a nice story of fishing off the intercoastal 2 weeks back and he happened to be driving by, so stopped and they had a long 2+ hour talk. He was upbeat, as always and they were talking about near future plans together. That's no guarantee as I did the same thing with a close friend decades back, and within a few hours he ate a bullet at home.

Locally those who knew him are saying he was found unresponsive, no signs of foul play and no signs of self inflicted harm. I'll wait before bringing up the elephant in the room.

This all is REALLY local to me, not just as a Dolphins fan, but as someone living the same part of Broward County. I've seen Channing Crowder out jogging in the morning. Him telling his story of fishing on Orange Drive (Intercoastal) is a few miles from where I live now and around the corner from where I grew up as a teen. The training facility was in Davie for decades until ~2 years ago.

DIMEBAG And VINNIE PAUL's Father JERRY ABBOTT Dead At 80

From Wikipedia:
His sons co-founded the heavy metal band Pantera in 1981, and Abbott was the band's first manager. He also produced the group's early albums Metal Magic (1983), Projects in the Jungle (1984), I Am the Night (1985) and Power Metal (1988), at his recording studio Pantego Sound. All of these albums were released by Metal Magic Records, a label that Abbott had created under the alias Jerry Eld'n.

Legendary Punk Engineer Steve Albini died last week. I was aware of him without being a fan. The bands he produced, like Nirvana, Pixies and Mogwai, while undoubtedly credible musically, just weren't really my thing. So despite being obsessed by certain engineers & producers due to my hobby, Albini mostly passed me by.
It has, however, been weirdly fascinating seeing Albini's somewhat dubious history pored over and the knots people are tying themselves in trying to defend him, whilst simultaneously wanting others cancelled, and even arrested, for comparatively insignificant utterings. The "underground music scene" in Scotland is full of excruciatingly "right-on" types, many of whom idolised Albini. I've seen numerous folk from that scene demand boycotts of bands because the singer wouldn't join in "from the river to the sea" chants or encourage mass hate-crime reporting of JK Rowling for saying women-only rape crisis centres should be staffed by biological women, and all sorts of other comparatively trivial nonsense.
These same folk defending Albini's graphic descriptions of child rape (to cite but one example - there are plenty of others) because "he was being an Edgelord" is simultaneously depressing and hilarious.

I have to admit I have not paid any attention to this love/hate argument about Albini.

Years ago, he was at CBGB's as his "Big Black" incarnation and I went to see the show. Wow, very intense and satisfying. I enjoyed his music. It was simple and satisfying and raw.

I think I saw another show of his when he was performing in his next bad, the name of which I have forgotten at the moment. Still amazing.

Then he went on to producing and I occasionally was aware of his work. I always felt he was immensely talented. Died way to young.

I remember talking to you about CBGB when I was in NY. I remain incredibly jealous. :p

I have to admit I feel incredibly lucky to have experienced that.

maybe not so lucky to have been in the restroom (UGH!), but as a bit of notorious history I can claim to have been there.
My brother actually played there in one of his bands.

it's now a clothing store, I believe. Although they have kept the walls intact.....I haven't gone in a long time to check it out.

IRON BUTTERFLY's DOUG INGLE Dead At 78

IRON BUTTERFLY founding member, organist, primary composer and lead vocalist Doug Ingle has died at the age of 78.

From Simpsons to Slayer, no one can doubt the cultural impact of In A Gadda Da Vida.

Brother Marquis of Miami hip-hop group 2 Live Crew has died at 58

The rapper Brother Marquis, who joined the Miami hip-hop group 2 Live Crew in the '80s and was featured on Ice-T's song "99 Problems," has died.

He was 58, according to TMZ, who first reported the news. 2 Live Crew's manager confirmed Brother Marquis' passing in an email to USA TODAY Monday.

The group shared he "went to the upper room" in an Instagram post. A cause of death was not immediately clear.

2 Live Crew's Uncle Luke (aka Luther Campbell) paid tribute to Brother Marquis on social media, writing on X, "My Condolence goes out to the Family of Brother Marquis and so many of his Fans from around the World after learning his passing.

If you don't know the history of 2 Live Crew, look it up. Just be warned their rap lyrics are as far NSFW as possible. Their album was banned in Broward County Florida, the band was arrested and put on trial. At least one record store owner was arrested too.

NSFW (Goes without saying)

Never heard of her but she was on American Idol and won a Grammy so that probably counts as celebrity. Mandisa Lynn Hundley has died. The cause of death was "being healthy at any size.
Cause of Death revealed

I wonder if the cause of death would have been reported differently before Ozempic became a celebrity darling.

"Class III Obesity" as a cause of death is a new term for me, but makes sense. According to an online search she was only 5'4 and 488lb at the time of death. putting that in a BMI calculator puts it at an 84 BMI and another new term for me "Hyper Obese".

Yup "Healthy At Any Size" movement is the cause of death.

not a "celebrity" in the usual meaning but this memorial is beautifully written. If I could write I wish I had said this about my mother. This lady has a lot in common with my mother. She certain had a wonderful, positive influence on her family and friends and never sought out "fame".
