And so it begins....

Lieberman Files To Be An Independant Candidate in the November General Elections.

I'm the first to admit that it is way too early to see anything conclusive but since everyone loves to use poll numbers:

Lieberman ahead by 5 points

The Rasmussen poll points out some interesting, if tentative data. I will be interested to follow this campaign through the November elections.

Regards,
Ltstanfo

And the polls continue...

Lieberman leads by double digits.

Again, it's too early for anything conclusive but I am curious to see how this turns out. Did the Democrats really do themselves a favor or will it ultimately backfire on them? Time will tell.

As expected, the Democrat response to Lieberman running as an independant is picking up speed. This past weekend John Kerry blasted Lieberman for continuing his campaign. Now it is no surprise that that the Democrats are "circling the wagons" around their candidate (Lamont) but apparently Joe is still enough of a threat that they want him gone, rather than risk an "independant" winning. It's going to get ugly before November.

One interesting point is the Republicans seem to be ignoring their own. Republican Alan Schlesinger is around 5 points compared to the high 30 - 40s for the other 2 candidates. MN is getting Bush, got Cheney and other Republicans backing Republican candidates. Seems the Republicans have given up on their man, aren't going to Connecticut to support their fellow Republicans. Instead we have Republicans stating why the people should back Leiberman. Gotta feel bad for Schlesinger dissed by his party it appears his party wans Leiberman to win instead of him.

You are correct Faethor. Schlesinger is being (mostly) ignored by the Republican party for reasons that Schlesinger cannot ignore or escape. As soon as his problems became public, he was dumped. It is politics after all...

With regards to Republicans apparently backing Lieberman, no surprise there (to me). I suspect the November elections will be a "lesser or two evils" type of situation for most voters in that state and given that the Republican candidate is a "no go", the only alternative is Lieberman.
