Meet Lily, a muppet facing growing concern: national hunger

There are Lilies out there (and I wonder if it was a deliberate reference to Matthew 6:28). Kids are going hungry and it's good to have a character that they can relate to and that other kids can learn from and or about. Charity is, after all, a Christian virtue so it is good for the soul to learn about those who require your charity.

Of course, I can see how it would bug psychopaths as they have no natural human empathy.

I can't wait for the ACORN Muppet and Casual Public Bathroom Sex Muppet.

Going hungry in the USA? They aren't eating free school breakfast? Not eating free school lunch? What happened to the free W.I.C. food? What about the Food Stamp Credit Card? Bastard Republicans want children to die from hunger!!

From these last two posts it seems that this is one of those special sport event Sundays that requires plenty of drinking.

Red saying stupid things doesn't undermine Sesame Street, it just undermines Red.

The hunger hoax

Ironically, the one demonstrable nutritional difference between the poor and others is that low-income women tend to be overweight more often than others. That may not seem like much to make a political issue from, but politicians and the media have created hysteria over less.

The political Left has turned obesity among low-income individuals into an argument that low-income people cannot afford nutritious food, and so have to resort to burgers and fries, pizzas and the like, which are more fattening and less healthful. But this attempt to salvage something from the “hunger in America” hoax collapses like a house of cards when you stop and think about it.

I can understand why two working parents would end up buying junk food. It's not just about the "joy" of cooking. It's about the time it takes. Two parents work and then come home to tend to all the household chores and then also cook for the family... you actually just run out of hours in the day to get everything done. In my house we do eat at the table most nights of a home cooked meal but that's because I have staff to cook and house keep. My kids are incredibly lucky - but I don't have to travel far before I see people who really aren't eating what they should.

While junk food makes its way into my house, my family has always had solid meals. I've been just as poor as anyone in my younger years. We were a 2 income house, because I worked 2 full time jobs and the wife stayed home to raise the kids. 40 hours a week is a freaking joke. I really don't like the excuse that 2 parents working full time jobs can't feed their kids anything but toxic sweets. That is nothing but pure laziness and a mind numbed from years of pop culture with a "me-me" sense of entitlement. How hard is it to buy a healthy cereal with fresh milk instead of Reces Pieces Cereal or Pop Tarts? Their improperly raised children whine for sugary treats, so instead of properly raising their kid they give them sugary treats to shut them up.

You're grouping casual public bathroom (presumably gay) sex with hunger? What is it about poor people you hate so much?

Almost all cereals are as bad as each other. Even stuff that looks healthy is loaded with HFC. Non BGH milk is still hard to come by in the US.

America, where the "hungry children" weigh 400 pounds

The only reason Lily is hungry is her mother is a crack whore

Most cereals' are bad. Though my 3 year old's favorite is Grapenuts. Grapenuts is whole grain, wheat flour, malted barley flour, salt and yeast. Though both kids prefer oatmeal sweetened with honey and brown sugar. Our 2nd favorite cereal is Kashi Go Lean Crunch which again has no HFC. Personally HFC's themselves aren't horrid. What's horrid is they are in every food to add sweetness and calories. This results in lower diversity of food stuffs compared to using agave, cane sugar, or honey. I can't speak for the USA but in MN the Non-BGH milk is next to the BGH milk. The difference in price is ~$1/ gallon.

Today I enjoyed school lunch with my 5 year old. He picked salad. Though I only partly attribute this to us. I think some people just prefer certain things. He's one that seems to have a very mature pallate as he loves Japanese Sushi, Thai (mild-medium hot), and Indian. Our 3 year old isn't quite as adventureous but definitely doesn't eat Twinkies.

Straw man.

How so? Your posts on this thread read back as a list of stuff you don't like rather than anything even approaching a coherent argument. I was half expecting the end of the sentence he quoted to end with "cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!".

Also, he asked you a question: What is it about poor people you hate so much?
