Mom Charged With Larceny For Taking Away Daughter’s IPhone As Punishment

The times, they are a-changin’. And if the Right doesn’t rise up and fight not only the political, but cultural changes giving power to the state, entitlement to children, and dismissal to parental rights, moms and dads may one day fear disciplining their children — even in non-corporal ways — due to threat of government intervention.

THE GOOD CENSOR: Google Briefing Admits Censorship Makes It Akin to a ‘Publisher’

In “The Good Censor,” an 85-page briefing leaked to Breitbart News from inside Google, the company admits that the role of censor is associated with the role of publisher – a categorization that arguably should open tech platforms up to immense legal risk.

The briefing was the product of extensive research on the part of Google. This included expert interviews with MIT Tech Review editor-in-chief Jason Pontin, Atlantic staff writer and tech critic Franklin Foer, and academic Kalev Leetaru. 35 cultural observers and 7 cultural leaders from seven countries on five continents were consulted to produce it. It can be read in full here.

Facebook Finally Admits That Its New Spy Equipment Can Spy on You

It sounded a little slippery last week, when Facebook announced Portal, a new voice-activated speaker and video chat gadget, and the company said that it would not use data collected through the device to target ads. It was, in fact, very slippery. Facebook just admitted that Portal is completely capable of collecting data about you and using that data to target ads. But don’t worry, Facebook probably won’t do this right away.

The miscommunication is confusing to say the least. Recode originally reported that “no data collected through Portal… will be used to target users with ads on Facebook.” Now, a full week later, Facebook has recanted that claim. Despite the fact that the company had said no data collected will be used for ad targeting, the Portal is fully capable of being a data-collection monster, and that data can absolutely be used for ad targeting. The company said in a statement:

Where oh where to drop this... Considering it is a serious look, I guess here. Very well done and short.

(one single questionable comment in the middle)

Facebook Fires Exec for Pro Trump Beliefs

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Palmer Luckey, co-founder of virtual reality company, Oculus, was fired for donating $10,000 to an anti-Hillary Clinton group during the 2016 election–triggering delicate Facebook employees and causing a backlash within the company.

Six months after making the donation, the executive was put on leave and eventually fired from Facebook. Luckey, according to the Journal, has told people he was fired because of his support for Donald Trump.

Internal emails also suggest that the donation and Luckey’s support for Trump were discussed “at the highest levels of the company.” In an attempt to quell the outrage, Facebook executives (including Zuckerberg) allegedly pressured Luckey to publicly support libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

According to one employee on an internal Facebook message board, multiple women had “teared up” in front of him over the news of Luckey’s donation and political affiliations.

In October, Luckey told CNBC that it wasn’t his choice to leave the company. “I can’t talk about it too much, but I’ll say that it wasn’t my choice to leave,” he said.

Beijing Debuts Plan to Monitor Behavior of Every Resident by End of 2020

Beijing plans to reward and punish its residents based on data that will be collected from various departments monitoring citizens’ social behavior, according to a detailed “action plan” posted on Monday to the city’s municipal website.

By the beginning of 2020, the announcement declares, China’s capital city will have all residents officially locked into the permanent surveillance program, part of a broader effort to have every Chinese citizen rated on a “social credit system” decreeing what public services a person can use based on their obedience to laws and loyalty to the communist regime.

Yeah. I'm subbed to these guys and they posted this not too long ago.
They've since left China with their families.
