This cartoon is right. The US news, right wing in nature, focused on the travisty of Edwards and how unfit this makes him. Yet the same commentators failed to turn their eyes to McCain. IF this was really the liberal media that conservatives want us to believe they would have lambasted McCain along the way. However, the media in the US is not liberal and we constantly are reminded of this. McCain's mulligans and skimming over is but one source of strong evidence.

Oh please, the Edwards story is playing out now, any McCain divorce and/or possible infidelity was decages ago. Go smoke your Monica Lewinksi brand cigars and think about it.

I think the truch is somewhere in between (IMO). You are correct that Edward's problems are playing out now. What has made it especially bad for him (IMO) is the fact that only the Enquirer followed the lead(s) when apparently all other "major media" outlets didn't think there was anything there (here I disagree with Faethor.. if they were indeed conservative all of the major media outlets would have run this to ground long ago). Well, guess what... the Enquirer got it right! It makes the big 4 (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN) look bad... just like they did back when the Enquirer broker the Gary Hart story... (IIRC). So now the big 4 (plus NYT, etc..) are over analyzing in an attempt to CYA... after the fact (again IMO).

I do agree with Faethor however that McCain is coming across as a bit of an elitist when he fails to provide answers that should be relatively easy to answer. But, being an elitist is not unique to McCain (IMO)... Obama's latest "viewing" in Hawaii doesn't make him look anymore of a "people's choice":

EDIT: I'm still not giving McCain a pass on the house issue because his reply was stupid in the least but it now appears that he actually may have some wiggle room with respect to the validity of his answer. Apparently he does not own any of the 8 properties... Cindy or the children own them all.

"Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses?" asked McCain spokesman Brian Rogers. "Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula and thinks regular people 'cling' to guns and religion in the face of economic hardship really want to have a debate about who's in touch with regular Americans?"

The simple fact is that the election is getting dirty and both candidates want to win. The outcome remains to be seen...

Red you seriously didn't get the points. The point is the conservative news and bloggers decry Edwards infidelity and treatment of his wife undergoing cancer as bad and makes him unelectable. Now they are right, it is bad, and perhaps he's unelectable. However, this same conservative news and bloggers fail to realize they have their own cheater who seperated from a wife under duress McCain. They embrace others who had mistresses and left wifes in cancer, Gingrich. They seem to be holding a double standards -- the democratic cheater's aren't good enough but our cheaters are great!

The answer here isn't the big 5 (Fox has 50% of cable clearly they're big) didn't pursue the story over a year ago and why Republicans defended Edwards when the story first broke is not that they were big liberal backers. The answer is that the National Enquirer's quality of news is in the gutter and not seen as worthy by Fox, or the Republicans, or ABC or CBS or... A broken clock is right twice a day is no surprise to anyone but most are smart enough to realize not to bother checking it.

This would be an amusing fight to see between the two of them. I'd think that someone who made $4M by working would rank higher then the guy who married his beer mistress billionaire who opposes public healthcare and welfare while living the last 30 years using public healthcare and collects a welfare check. And afterall Obama's income in 2006 was under $1M, clearly McCain's running against someone he believes to be middle-class.

On the other three points, the cartoon is still current.

The Edwards infidelity story is playing out now, but why? Is there any reason for it to be on TV and in the news? Does it make any difference to his chances of becoming president? No. And that's the real point. This is a 1) distraction, 2) muddy the waters story. It goes after a Dem (hoping to tar the Dem brand) who isn't running for Prez and distracts from a Repub with the same foibles who is running.

Later if these McCain issues are brought up then the media can treat it as if the ground is already covered and no-one cares about those sorts of stories anymore.

Oh please, the Edwards story is playing out now, any McCain divorce and/or possible infidelity was decages ago. Go smoke your Monica Lewinksi brand cigars and think about it.

The Edwards infidelity story is playing out now, but why? Is there any reason for it to be on TV and in the news? Does it make any difference to his chances of becoming president? No. And that's the real point. This is a 1) distraction, 2) muddy the waters story.
