Comparing Bush to a monkey is meant to be offensive to Bush, but is not racist and thus the offense is focused on Bush alone.

Comparing Obama to a monkey is also meant to be offensive, but is also racist and thus the offense is spread amongst a very large portion of the population.

Please don't make me have to spell out simple things like this again, it's quite pathetic.

I'm still trying to figure out *where* Obama was compared to a Monkey with regards to the cartoon!? I entirely agreee that the cartoon was at best a complete failure at humor but it never implied Obama (IMO). The quote said "They'll have to find someone else would have to write the next stimulous bill". Well, who worked it this time? The house and senate... NOT Obama. As someone else here has noted, it took Sharpton to tell us what we should be seeing / thinking. Why are we making this more than it ever was? Whyzzat?

And don't try to shovel that "implied racisim" bunk. Unless someone can show me that the cartoonist and the editor of the paper have a record of racisim, why are we even looking for something that (all but certainly) isn't there? So much for Obama being a great unifier and bringer of "hope". :roll:

You're most probably right that the cartoon was not intended to compare Obama to a chimp, my reply was mostly directed to metalman's pictures comparing Bush/chimp cartoons to a photoshop pic of Obama's face on a chimp's body - and attempting to tell us there's no difference. There is.

As for the cartoon, I'd have to say that anyone who doesn't understand who writes stimulus bills may assume it was Obama since he's the one who's been advocating it in the press lately. The weird thing about that cartoon is we're not sure why that chimp was shot in the first place.

Very good and speaks volumes on the idiocy of writing a stimulus bill, passing it and then signing it when it is a spending bill. This is very much Like Jimmy Carter. Bend over and grab your ankles. Anything Congress or a president has done to create government debt in the past was a drop in the bucket compared to the Obama administration and this congress. In addition, I do not care for the Clinton-like in your face attitude that this administration has. They don't care about the USA. Bush inherited a recession and 911 thank to the previous administration and congress. It all sucks big time.

The cartoon is calling Pelosi and her aids "chimps" for writing the stimulus bill. The shooting of the chimp was a news event the day before.

Its the hyperventilating thought police who have leaped to the conclusion that the chimp was Obama. The same people who were silent about the racist cartoons of Secretary of State Rice.

The outrage of the thought police is very selective about who and when to be outraged ....

Unknown yet if are the condoms are the “ribbed for her pleasure” or just the regular model.

Technically, no. That too is a stretch too far in interpretation. It simply implied that the stimulous package was so ill conceived that it could have been written by a chimp. It impugned the package but not necessarily the writers.

Of course the Thought Police were very active under Bush too. They were offended by the use of shrub. They established backing Bush as the meaning of 'Support Our Troops'. The Republican talking heads talked about how liberals hated the US and wanted the down fall of Bush and are therefore hate America. These same talking heads now openly state they wish to see Obama fail.

In the US we have freedom of speech. The guy was free to make the cartoon. The papers were free to carry it. People are free to be and feel offended. Other people are free to feel offended by the offenders.
