Returning to CRT

except from the color issue, TFT/LCD is really ideal, especially if you use more than one computer in the same room. I got myself a laptop and now I use half the space I used with a normal computer+crt, now I have room for a scanner and a printer on one and the same desk. I use this:

LCD/TFT vs CRT...

CRT sold as 17" are typically around 16.1" whereas LCD sold as 17" are 17"

CRT has variable resolutions, LCD's typically do best at their shipped rate.

LCD pictures are sharp, CRTs can have issues blemished due to flawed focused.

CRT is often less expensive then LCD.

LCD takes up less desktop space then CRT.

CRT uses more power, emits more EM radiation and is more impacted by EMF.

LCDs are more sensitive and CRTs can take more abuse.

LCDs typically have lower contrast ratio, higher response times, and less accurate color reproduction.



I have both a Hitatchi 19" CRT and a Samsung 19" TFT-LCD. Each is nice in it's own way.

Oh, indeed, CRTs have much nice colours, however, if you're planning on spending lots of time in front at the computer, then TFTs are unbeatable.

I find long amounts of time in front of TFT screens gives me headaches, my eyesight is quite sensitive, the only thing I can use for more then say an hour at a time is a CRT, and even then only when the refresh rate is above 70hz. I have to say that for me the flatscreen crt is probably the best comprimise for me as it allows me to work longer with fewer ill effects.. Of course your milage may vary :D

One thing I would say though is that the modern TFT screens are more comfortable to view for extended periods then more traditional LCD screens.
