Sandy on the way

as usual, you have been misinformed
”F-ck all of you f-cking [unintelligible]! That’s who you hurt! You’re taking it from our families! Good jobs!” “Go back where you came from! Look at her face! Scab! Look at her face, scab! That’s who you’re hurting, scab! You feel good tonight? Go home, you bunch of scabs! That’s who you’re hurting! Taking our jobs! That’s who you’re hurting, scabs! You’re hurting families!”

no, and that's one of the reasons that article seems odd

not exciting news to most, I realize, but I lucked out this morning and was able to get gas for the car.

An amazing sentence for the 21st century

anyway, even though I saw some stations today which had shorter lines than previous days and some gas stations are closed (probably ran out of gas) as I was returning home from errands we noticed one place I go to regularly didn't have a line and we figured it was worth a shot to drive up. They have the pumps maned by at least one person each and have this organized very efficiently so they can get customers in, gassed up, and out as FAST as possible. I waited at the corner, turned off the ignition (not going to see ME wasting gas idling) and in a couple of minutes or less, the guy at the pump waved me in.

I've never gotten gas so fast !

Now mom can make an appointment with a doctor this week !
yeah!

my friend on Breezy Point has been giving us reports on her home.

Her basement filled up entirely with water. "...filled up by 13-foot surge/tidal wave within 3 minutes."

and the first floor has to have it's flooring replaced. "..several inches of water was in there for a few hours...so floor, sub-floor, and sheet-rock 2 feet up all comes out on first floor. In basement - all sheet-rock, doors, etc. down to the studs, plus hot water heater, electric panel, etc. "

"waders needed! knew I shouldn't have thrown out Dad's 10 years ago."

Just for clarity, is what you call the first floor the same place I'd call the ground floor?

@cecilia

Wondering if you are seeing much of Occupy. I heard there were some groups that were getting into places that the Red Cross and FEMA hadn't been getting to.

I've seen news reports that Occupy has generated more money than some of the usual charity organizations but around me it's almost back to normal. my area didn't get hit badly. All the downed trees have been removed although there's still piles of branches (mostly from Storm Athena) here and there.

I would guess we would see that kind of "Occupy" help in Staten Island and the shores. Those places are a real mess and will take quite a while to repair. My friend in Breezy Point is having her floor redone.

Back on the Global Warming news a bit. It appears that Sandy was a once in a century event. With a rise of water (sorry don't recall the exact amount from the article) the scientists estimate this would be a once every 3 year event. Clearly a warmer planet has climatic implications.

I'm fully expecting that and it's why I need to get more reliable means of power to the house
