Peter Tork Of The Monkees Dead At 77

5c6edc6a2f9cf55630d17161

Tork's sister, Anne Thorkelson, announced his passing to the Washington Post, but did not specify a cause. Nonetheless, back in 2009, he was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer that affected his tongue. When The Monkees premiere on NBC in 1966, Tork was just 24-years-old and the band's oldest member.

A quote from Mike Nesmith of the loss of Peter Tork
posted "I am heartbroken" on Facebook, then issued a longer statement.

"Peter Tork died this AM. I am told he slipped away peacefully. Yet, as I write this my tears are awash, and my heart is broken. Even though I am clinging to the idea that we all continue, the pain that attends these passings has no cure.

It's going to be a rough day.
"I share with all Monkees fans this change, this "loss", even so.

"PT will be a part of me forever. I have said this before -- and now it seems even more apt -- the reason we called it a band is because it was where we all went to play.

"A band no more -- and yet the music plays on -- an anthem to all who made the Monkees and the TV show our private -- dare I say "secret" -- playground.
"As for Pete, I can only pray his songs reach the heights that can lift us and that our childhood lives forever -- that special sparkle that was the Monkees. I will miss him -- a brother in arms. Take flight my brother..

Yup, and "Terrible" Ted Lindsay, too. Who was anything but terrible off the ice. He probably did more for the NHL and future players than any other person. Plus he started one of the coolest traditions in sports when after the Red Wings beat the Rangers in game 7 of the 1950 finals, he picked up the Stanley Cup and skated a lap of the old Olympia with it held over his head to show it to the fans.

Pro wrestler King Kong Bundy dies at age 61

I probably should have mentioned something. On the TV show Married With Children, the family's last name is "Bundy" entirely because of King Kong Bundy. The show writer was a big wrestling fan. That's also why King Kong Bundy himself made a number of guest appearances on the show, at least one time I remember where he was said to be Peg's cousin.

It should be noted that first TD in Dolphins history he scored wasn't just the first TD in team history. It happened on the FIRST PLAY IN TEAM HISTORY!

RIP.

FORMER OZZY OSBOURNE GUITARIST BERNIE TORME DEAD AT 66

Bernie Tormé, former Ozzy Osbourne and Gillan guitarist, passed away yesterday (March 17) at the age of 66.

The announcement came on Tormé's Facebook page. A photo of the musician shows him sitting on his deck while a caption simply reads, "Bernie Tormey 18.3.1952 - 17.3.2019." The guitarist was battling "virulent double pneumonia" according to an update in mid-February, which also noted that he was under intensive care.

Tormé's biggest musical success came while he was a member of Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan's solo band. He performed on four albums -- Mr. Universe, Glory Road, Future Shock and Double Trouble -- before leaving the group in 1981.

From there, he briefly joined the ranks of Ozzy Osbourne's band, replacing Randy Rhoads immediately after the guitarist's tragic death in an airplane accident in 1982. He was only in the band for 10 days, but served as the vital bridge back to the stage for a distraught Osbourne. Brad Gillis was brought in to replace him and Gillis was ultimately replaced by Jake E. Lee.

Joseph Pilato, Day of the Dead Star and Horror Favorite, Dies at 70

Pilato is perhaps best known for his role as the antagonist in George A. Romero's 1985 zombie movie sequel Day of the Dead, delivering one of the most memorable villain performances of the era. The late actor died in his sleep at 70 years old, and further details on Pilato's passing are not yet clear. His friend Marty Schiff confirmed the news on Facebook, posting a heartfelt message along with the announcement. "It is with great sadness that I inform you that actor and old friend Joseph "Joe" Pilato passed away quietly in his sleep last night," Shiff says in the post. "Rest in Peace, Joe."

including this here because it's related to all the wrestlers who die way too young

That was good, thanks for posting. John Oliver is clearly a wrestling fan.

The industry has changed. A lot of what used to make it good is impossible to do now. I agree with most of what he says, but blame for wrestlers dying young often includes some of that blame being on the wrestler. Especially in the 70's through 90s, steroid abuse, drugs and alcohol were used at ridiculous levels. Then you also had the wrestlers that got famous because they were some sort of genetic abnormality that guarantees an early death, like Andre The Giant, El Gigante, Silo Sam etc. Still, yes the current WWE can certainly do more for past and current wrestlers, especially past ones who worked prior to 2008 when they officially went PG rated. Around this time they got more serious about their wellness policy and minimizing in ring injuries.

He sure is! I was surprised at first but then I can see why. He loves crazy entertainment.

as to his points: you can't really do much about a person's genetics (not until medicine starts becoming more like Doctor McCoy's techniques), but you sure CAN do something about how a business is run. Any business that doesn't treat it's employees with respect probably doesn't deserve them.

Thanks to Oliver things may actually improve to the point where people dying way too early is considered very unusual

He's not the original singer, but he's been with the band for a quarter century.

MOLLY HATCHET Singer PHIL MCCORMACK Dies

Phil McCormack, the frontman for rock band MOLLY HATCHET, has died. No official cause of death has yet been revealed, but the 102.7 WSNR radio station has reported that it "looks like a heart attack." He was 58 years old.

MOLLY HATCHET issued a statement on McCormack's passing earlier today, saying: "It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of our friend and band member, Phil McCormack. Our condolences and prayers go out to his family during this time of loss. Phil's contributions to MOLLY HATCHET were heard around the world. He will be missed but never forgotten."

McCormack officially joined the band in 1996 but stood in for the late and former MOLLY HATCHET frontman Danny Joe Brown many years prior.

Looking at the Wikipedia page, it is quite depressing to see how many former members are dead. Only one founding member is alive. He also seems to be the only one alive for any of the original iconic era of the band.
