The wussification of the American Male continues

...........Sperm counts are way, way down. Physical appearance is without a doubt changing.
maybe Mother Nature is telling us to STOP making babies. We already have 7 BILLION people on the planet.

and if some people look differently maybe it's because they have the leisure time to shower and comb their hair

believe me, women like THAT.

and if you want to return to an earlier time when men looked like men, try Maori Tribal tattoos

that's very f'ing manly

... but flowers and chocolates between guy friends is a bit eyebrow raising
Since that was something that was said in a quote and the speaker said it with a laugh, I took that as an ironic statement by the speaker said for humour.

That's why I put "continues". To be clear I don't think men having close relationships with friends and family is bad, but flowers and chocolates between guy friends is a bit eyebrow raising
I thought the main charm of the US was that no matter how weird you are, no one raises an eyebrow. I thought it was all about freedom?

Bummer :(

Besides, don't you think you're acting like an utter tyrant to decide how people should face their death? I mean, nothing is more personal than one's death...

oh ouch... that hurt a bit... i hate hairbrushes and combs.... i'm good about the water thing tho... ;)

actually our big selling point is that we get to talk about freedom, we don't actually have as much of it as we used to, and a lot less than we're going to end up with... well that and our theme parks and strip malls...:(

Everyone everywhere has the freedom of speech - so long as what you say agrees with what your rulers want you to say.

@CECILIA

I thought this fit the thread and you'd appreciate this. Others - you should too.
If you want to skip to about the 3:40 minute mark. It gets really good around 6minutes.

You have the right to free speech. As long as you're not dumb enough to actually try it - Know your Rights, The Clash.

actually, it depends on which part of the US you live.

In a very cosmopolitan area like NY (which includes neighboring States like NJ, Conn. and areas like Long Island), people are generally unconcerned by people's eccentricities. Or, rather, they are really good at ignoring them.

on the other hand, there are places in the "south" where you can get killed if you are discovered to be gay.

I'm sorry and horrified to say that this has happened.

well, i personally don't require a great deal of "combing". it's most important to be clean. The clothes can be rags....as long as they are clean. I'm not fussy :D

well, that's just brilliant.

He's completely correct on Every point

The reason I am a success (and my brother as well) is because we were raised in a family that believes in equality, education and intelligence

Cecilia, gay bashing is not limited to the south. I'm sure you can find examples of it in NY and done by registered democrats. I really don't know why you (plural) insist on trying to smearing one group of people.

@Cecilia and @Redrumloa,
Bigotry is indeed all over. Though in my travels the in your face or voraciousness of racism, sexism, and sexual discrimination is a noticeable difference in the Bible Belt area. In the mid-west and New England areas it's much more subtle and hidden. In some ways I appreciate the honesty of the Bible Belt. At the same time I understand how threatening it can be to be a minority in that area. What's that Atlanta saying? If you're white and go to the black section of town you'll be killed for your money. If you're black and you go to the white section of town you'll be killed for being black. From what I observe(d) there is a difference in the in your face bigotry is handled.

I think this a good example. A Florida professor asked students to step on an image of Jesus. And because the image of Christ should not be destroyed he's on leave due to Death Threats from Christians. If this happened in the North very few would give a damn, let alone call in death threats.

don't kid yourself.

yes, there are bigots in NY. They just aren't in the majority.. and there isn't a 'culture' of bigotry like there is in the south.

a friend of mine a few years ago went to Arkansas to put on a play.

He noticed that people there were subtly trying to discern his views on "race" because they were trying to figure out if he was 'one of them' or NOT.

Trust me, almost NO one in NY does this sort of dance. It would just Never occur to me to wonder if someone was a racist or not.

and there isn't a culture of bigotry in the democratic party (qualifier... as it stands today). when all of my republican brothers abandoned me after the war because the rule of law would prosecute one of the party faithful had they supported it (the rule of law then) i decided i wasn't a turncoat to go away from where i was not welcome. just being true to my beliefs to the point, that yes red, i will foolishly vote against my wallet until all women/men are free to be persecuted by their government equally... guess what red? if you give into the gay thing... they'll stop opposing all of your community bond issues... theyll be allowed children... and those kids, attending your schools... well... you're dollars ahead with them... not really sure what term will end up defining them... i dont like gay cause im a closet poet and gay rhymes with a bunch of stuff, (but it'll get ur books sent to a different isle even if you mean happy),and homosexual seems just mean anymore... i know you republicans like to think everything leads to some nonsensical willy nilly bullshit and that'd be fine were it not so counterproductive...and imprudent, and {bleep} against everything this nation was founded upon, "All Men Equal"... not sure what part of "All" you, knuckle dragging, prior slave states don't get; but we will beat it into you again if need be... u only think there are more of you than us... you guys are hopelessly outnumbered.... and you may only hold two guns... no matter how many you own...

Huh? That was pretty incoherent. Was my take away from that supposed to be I am a knuckle-dragging homophobe?

Gotta say, as long as I've known you I've never thought that you were homophobic. Apathetic toward something that doesn't directly effect you (which if that ever became a crime I'd be in the dock alongside you).

But no, on this one I'd say that you were fairly liberal (in the UK sense of the word).
