Tuesday Predictions

Well, it's over and President Obama will get his second term. I congratulate him and hope he really meant what he said last night. Just remember sir, trust is earned and not given. You have a lot of work to do and a lot to live up to.

Good luck Mr. President.

Regards,

@Metalman,
How'd your predictions do?

Minnesota is in no way a Presidential battle ground state. Neither Presidential candidates spent any significant time here. We got the Veep treatment. -- Minnesota's electorial votes will go to Obama.
Spot on. Obama wins by 8 points.

Michele Bachmann is a conservative in the most conservative district in the State. She has more money than all the other candidates combined. She's spent almost 10x more cash than her Dem opposition. It'll be close but I pick Bachmann by the skin of her teeth. I think we may see a possible recount here.
Wrong on spending she ended up spending over 12x more than the Democratic Candidate. Michele won by the skin of her teeth. It's a bit unclear right now but it's close enough that an automatic recount isn't out of the question.

Locally, it'll be a mixture. After the last few years of all Republicans in the State Congress I think we'll see Dems take some seats.
Wrong. Dems retook both House and Senate in Congress.

Ammendments - we have two
Voter-ID - numbers are close, a few polls show NO. I believe this will be passed.
Same-Sex Marriage outlaw - again numbers are close . I believe this will not be passed.
Half right. Same-sex outlaw did fail as predicted, YEAH! Voter-ID also failed. I'm glad I was wrong there. And taking the statement above it appears the Republicans that fronted the need to change the State Constitution were sent packing.

Iowa - went to Obama as predicted.

@Redrumola,
I hear your pain. Afterall the split Republicans took the House and the Dems the Senate. There will be lots of gridlock in the Congress. Not much the President can do about that. I expect the Republican House will continue to not pass job bills, not pass a full budget, and in short make life difficult for the Senate, the President, and thereby the nation. It's too bad the parties don't understand it really is their job to compromise.

Wait, wait, wait... All I have been hearing for months is how The One would personally fix everything. I have been hearing how Bill Clinton put an 'S' on his chest in the 90's and single handedly created a surplus. Now that The One has a 2nd term, it won't be his fault?

A couple of numbers I heard on the radio.
Latinos make up ~18% of all voters. 72% voted Obama
Blacks made up ~10% of all voters. 93% voted Obama
Asians : 73% voted Obama
Women down from 56% to 55%
Obama again ruled the youth vote. Youth increated their voting rate from 18% in 2008 to 19% in 2012. Again primary for Obama.

Romney's supporters again - older white males. Republicans have owned this section since the mid-80s. And they will continue to lose if they can't figure out how to get the minorities. Why? Because in not too long whites will no longer be a majority. They are quickly becoming the largest of minorities and will not be able to own elections on their own. It's simple statistics. Republicans must ask why minorities are disenfrancised from their message. Heck Catholics are anti-abortion and Republicans tried hard but again failed to get them to vote Romney.

You may be hearing that Red. But, I think you haven't been reading that here. I, for one, have said out of our two selections Obama is the best of the bad choices. Also, most here are realistic that our government is not a dictatorial of just the President. Like football the game does get tracked by the quarterback aka Prez.

All of them need more oxygen to the brain and vote for a 3rd party.

Yet you voted for Obama. Next time vote 3rd party.

If there is a next time...

Third parties are, unfortunately, doomed under the current system. I applaud you for your principles though, but most people are not so courageous. I know people who would like to vote for third parties but everything is set up to funnel people to the big two - everything on the debates about nothing to the TV coverage. Just try to think about how many times any of the third party candidates got mentioned in any coverage compared to the big two. That needs to change so that people can remember that there is a choice. I think a lot of people got to the polls and saw all of those other candidates names for the first time and had no idea who any of them were.

Quite frankly, you'd probably be better off with a one party system - then everyone could pick their reps based on their ideas, not their team.

Perhaps the independents need to work their way up. Independents should secure some other high profile government office like governor or senator before attempting the presidency. I can understand why people might be weary of not voting for a non-politician to the highest political office. As it is, Obama will struggle with Congress because the majority are not of his party. An independent might have an impossible time if both parties go against him. Overall I think the system needs more independents, or perhaps, just a third party.

The "system" has all of those things. The "system" also has ways of stopping third parties and independents from getting real power.

at every election I make sure to vote Independent or Green - some slots have either one or the other.
the only exception is Obama only because he IS a moderate republican in action if not in name and is a reasonable person.
ie, not a fucknut teabagger religous asswipe.

Oh, the other thing I was gonna say is that I'm still kinda surprised as to how much Americans view their president as all powerful when really, he's only all powerful when it comes to foreign policy. When it comes to domestic policy, congress, the senate, local governments and the courts play a very large role. Do Americans really care about foreign policy that much?

I don't think many Americans really think that through.

:D

notice how long I have complained about the MORONS in congress?
fortunately, voters DID get rid of a few idiots. but we still have way too many

There is some severe things that need to happen for 3 parties to be viable. The most important is to pull unlimited spending is good for free speech out of our system. Next I'd say we need 4 parties. Seperating Republicans in 1/2 and Dems in 1/2 at the same time is likely to work better than seperating just 1 party into pieces. I've voted for plenty of 3rd parties, mostly Green, just not this time.

There is a "next time" As bad as things may be the USA is still one of the best if not the best position in the world. We surved 8 years of Bush (barely look at the mess he left). You'll survive Obama.
