Watching the DNC

The party of the Klan, for segregation etc, trying to claim being on the right side of history is a douche move.
No Red it's simply that Minnesota had history books written after 1940.

Truman's platform gave support to anti-segregation laws. At the 1948 DNC Convention the Southern 'Dixiecrats' led by Strom Thurman seperated from the party. Some came back but many joined the Republicans. Democrats in the 50s worked with economic opportunities of blacks with the New Deal and civil rights efforts. LBJ then signed the civil rights act of 1964. The Bill was introduced by a Democrat. The signees were shared between the parties. Though the majority of the signatures of both parties were from the North. It was then Nixon pursued the 'Southern Strategy'. The result was more Dems moving to the Republicans, shoring up the South for Republicans. (Noteable example: Strom Thurman became a Republican.) And, not so surprisingly, dumping 90% of the black voters over to the Dems. So while pre-civil war Dems were fairly pro-slavery in the 20 years between the 40s-60s the Dems switched sides and the Republicans took the opportunity to take the forelorn racists into their fold.

Who remembers these key Republican platforms they've abandoned?
"
Government, as the servant of such a system, should take all needed steps to strengthen and develop public health, to promote scientific research, to provide security for the aged, and to promote a stable economy so that men and women need not fear the loss of their jobs or the threat of economic hardships through no fault of their own.
The rights and obligations of workers are commensurate with the rights and obligations of employers and they are interdependent; these rights should be protected against coercion and exploitation from whatever quarter and with due regard for the general welfare of all.
The soil as our basic natural resource must be conserved with increased effectiveness;

Elimination of the poll tax.

Collective bargaining is an obligation as well as a right, applying equally to workers and employers; and the fundamental right to strike is subordinate only to paramount considerations of public health and safety.

We pledge continuing study to improve labor-management legislation in the light of experience and changing conditions.

We favor equal pay for equal work regardless of sex. "
Alas Red those days of Progressive Republicans are over. The far right wing is the mantra of the late 20th and early 21st Century Republicans. Just thought you'd like to be reminded of some other really good things the Republicans gave up on - besides blacks, women, and gays.

And here we go. Now the DNC has a questionable voice vote requiring a 2/3 majority on a highly contentious issue.
It's not the vote for rules suspension but the motion they suspend the rules to vote on.

ugh, more god sh_it

looks to me as if they really needed to take a written vote

30 months of positive job growth. Sure it doesn't overcome the Bush Era started recession. Had it been McCain we'd be in a depression. Now imagine how many more jobs would exist if the Republicans didn't play the block the job bill game.

Heard more of the RNC than the DNC. It appears Clinton claimed Dems create more jobs than Republicans. Fact checkers say: TRUE

John Lewis gave a brilliant speech. I wish I could find the video but this link has the words

Obama “saved” United Auto Workers union
NOT “The Auto Industry”

Note to Governor Granholm: People also design and build and sell elevators

Where is the truth in that statement? Is there any truth in it at all?
Let's start with the figures.
4.5 Million private sector jobs created in the last 29 months. Yes.
.5 Million public sector jobs lost in the same time period. Net gain 4 Million jobs, not 4.5 Million.

Obama has been in office for 45 months.
The recession has officially been over for 39 Months.
Obama only wants to use the last 29 months in his calculations. Why is that?
Because he is counting from the lowest point, and hoping that you won't remember the Millions of jobs lost on his watch, before that low point.
Since the recession was officially over, Obama cannot claim any net increase in jobs! Only a net loss!

It is called lies by omission.

Here is the sad truth.
In the last 12 months (July 2011-July 2012) 2,027,000 unemployed people quit looking for a job and are no longer considered part of the unemployment rate. That averages out to 168,916 people a month, that are losing their jobs and will never be counted again in the unemployment figures.

Yeah we all know you'd rather have no jobs than Union jobs. Because you are your brother's keeper as Christ asked Christians to be right.

Correct, we have the smaller government employee base, therefore less employee costs to the tax payer. It's something the Tea Party and Republicans claim they're for. And something Republican Presidents in the last half of the 20th Century were unable to acheive.

Obama has been in office for 45 months.

Yes Fade it's the silly season. Where people play with numbers. The Why is that we can compare both Bush and Obama's results coming out of the recession. Additionally, since Republicans are more focused on private sector job creation we can use those numbers.
Coming off the Clinton/Bush recession until Obama was sworn in Bush created 3Million private industry jobs. Coming off the Bush/Obama recession until today Obama created 4.5Million private industry jobs. In roughly 1/2 the time Obama produced 50% more jobs in the post-recession era.

The sad truth is we're not out of it. We have a choice to continue the improvements we are seeing. The Republicans argument is essentially - we caused the recession, Obama didn't fix it quick enough, so let us give you the recession back.

another steal-able comment :D

The idea of a labor union, is to screw those not in the Union.

"2016: Obama's America" features an interview with the president's half brother.
Obama is only compassionate with other people's money.

Why do you support organized crime?

Do you have any idea where we are losing gov jobs and where we are gaining public jobs?

Here's a hint, Obamacare will be run by the IRS.

Democrats take a recession, make it worse through incompetence and cronyism, then 4 years later are still blaming Bush

But hey, Obama has made some sacrifices, limiting himself to only 18 vacations since becoming President

Republicans have seen the future and it's in Mississippi.

Sadly, the numbers show that incomes, working conditions, educational performance and health care are worst where union protections are weakest and Republicans poll best. And by almost any measure of social dysfunction, it is Mississippi - the most conservative state in the nation - where the GOP race to the bottom leads.
I'm so sorry for the people living in Mississippi.
