Waterboarding isn't torture? Try it

No, if it's illegal for the US to do to the enemy (which IMO, isn't), then it's clearly illegal to perform on your own citizens.
The nature of how and why is different. On the enemy it's a non-consentual and attempt to convince them they'll die. The goal is to get information. Which one does, though the validity is of question. Note the previous example of your tax dollars spent worthless following up on invalid information. When a US Solider is submitted to this during training it is consentual. They give their permission to have it done to them. Additionally, they know there's to be trained professionals to help prevent their death. It's done to educate them on some of the experiences they may face if captured.

It's a difference sort of like... Non-consentual beating your wife is against the law. Consentual beating your wife in an S&M relationship, not as much illegal. The difference is vicitiming versus willing participant.

I tried to, but I mainly feel scared and angry because apparently quite some people think that way. It's like, it crosses a line.
I guess it's 'funny' if you have seen this stupid bitch on faux news babbling like the moron she is. the satire is of her...babbling.

anyway, stupid people should be made fun of as often as possible.....it's one of the best weapons we have against that kind of retarded thinking

well all of this talk about waterboarding makes me wanna drown somebody... who's it gonna be?

Right Wing talk show host Mancow Waterboarded . It's not too hard to guess what the results are. Agrees it's torture.

Right wing talk show host??? he's a shock jock, he's as right wing as Howard Stern.
Mancow volunteered for the waterboarding.
No sane person would ever volunteer to have it preformed on them if it was actually torture.
Waterboarding is extremely unpleasant and is designed to trigger the panic attack of drowning, no lasting effects.

Mancow needs to volunteer for "water torture" , to make a valid comparison.

Firstly, it is illegal to torture. Secondly, as military you are subject to certain requirements over and above that of a civilian that in many cases would not be "legal" to require of the latter. By signing up as a member of the armed forces you willingly surrender certain rights. You have a volunteer military and as such the training for dealing with torture would come under the same get outs as those participating in BDSM.

Really? Which specific parts are you referring?

Armed forces are required to honour the various Geneva Conventions as well as other follow on treaties, any army not doing so forfeits the right to the same.

Which of course, since the US Senate never ratified it, meaningless.

Actually, with the exception of the Landmine and Cluster munition treaties, the US has signed up to the relevant international humanitarian treaties. Whilst it chooses to ignore the ICC, it doesn't make it meaningless.

I will point out the error in your logic (don't like how this system quotes, but such is life) that it was never the Taliban that was waterboarded. Taliban prisoners were turned over to the Afghans to take care of. Only people waterboarded were senior AQ and AQ by the definition, does not have a country to defend.

Except that it wasn't just senior AQ who got the full nine yards. Not by a long chalk.

I'll look at the IV version at a later date if you can quote the sections I need to look at.

It's not just the Geneva Conventions that you need to look at, they make up only a tiny fraction of the relevant treaties the US has signed up to.

Not sure if it's always the best weapon. Hitler has been made fun of also quite a few times. Best remedy in his case happened to be to get rid of him. You know, bad publicity is publicity as well.

well, yes, satire may not be the "best" weapon....but right now, I really don't care to walk into her office with an explosive briefcase. Especially if she happens to have an especially heavy desk

(and only people who know about the assassination attempts on Hitler would get THAT reference)

i would but if dick ended up dead; im the first person they would blame...

Take a number and wait your turn dude... There are plenty out there who would gladly off him.

One thing that did surprise me though about him was that when his daughter came out to him, he fully supported her (unlike one of his republican colleagues who disowned his son a few months prior) and has actually gone on to support gay rights.

maybe she threatened to waterboard him

It's part of the training program of a volunteer army. It's not torture if they volunteer for the job.

No it won't be probably within a decade. Russia and or China will be the new military super powers. Feel free to tell them how to conduct themselves and see what that gets you.
Russia is a basket case and never was the power house people thought it was. They lost their biggest advantage of numerical superiority when the Soviet Union broke up. Without the ability to force Ukrainians on the front line, they're not likely to bother anyone. China certainly has the numbers but not the technology. At least not yet and probably won't for a while. Everyone seems to think today's economic situation will extend on indefinitely, but that's unlikely. The US is more adaptive and responsive than both Russia and China and is more likely to succeed in the long term. China is doing good now, but they too will eventually hit a wall. It might be next year or next decade, but it will happen and their ability to recover will determine their position on the world map.

Eh, I didn't mean to kill her! Just to get her out of the picture! Oh, and btw. I know about that assassination attempt. Not sure how that would've worked out, though...
