Wisconsin is about stealing public utilities

I have the question why/how did the City put themselves in this position? It would seem about 30+% of the $100K is healthcare.

You are making an assumption that is probably similar to the assumption that you were "supposed" to make from this limited information. We really don't know what "cost of a teacher" means and for some reason no-one felt it necessary to break this down.

By analogy:
The cost of a US soldier in Afghanistan is $1,000,000 a year. Since a soldier's salary is around $20,000 that means they must be getting one heck of a benefits package. We should cut their pay!!!

btw, my mother NEVER got $100,005 in compensation in ANY year.
not EVER

the revolution continues
United Wisconsin is devoting to get the citizens of Wisconsin to sign a petition to recall Gov. Scott. In the first 10 days they acheived 20% of the support needed for a recall. I believe they have some more time. My understanding is the Gov of Wisconsin can be recalled after the first year in office. So they have about 9 more months to build signatures.

Doing quick math it appears the teachers in question have a burden rate of a stonking 77%! Burden is the cost to employers above salary. That is 2-3 times higher than the private sector. The company I work for has fantastic benefits (for the private sector) and burden is running at 32%. AFAIK the industry standard for burden is closer to 20%.

"How can teacher fringe benefits be nearly as much as salary?"

As part of their collective bargaining Wisconsin teachers name the Insurance provider they want, which is the WEA Trust! (owned by the Union) who's premiums far exceed market norms. $10k per employee is then siphoned to the union and added to the cost of the benefit package. School boards are not allowed to shop for equivalent, less expensive employee health insurance.

That's my understanding as well. The real problem is will the koch bro buy someone else to be governor?

It's not only Wisconsin stealing public utilities. Michigan appears to be doing the same thing. The Republican Gov. there is cutting education by $300Million and increasing prisions by $12Million.

Under the previous Democratic Gov. one private prision was closed due to cost over runs and prisioner abuse. The new Republican Gov. Rick Synder is now looking to reopen the prision to 'save money'.

We can see where Republican priorities are. Gut education invest in private prisions.

We need more men to protest this coming week. We will call in the morning on when we will need you. We pay $7.50. You will be helping out middle class workers in our State. This job is only for 4 - 6 hours at a time, usually between 3:00 PM till 7:00 PM Please send a picture when you e-mail."

Doesn't cost anything to post on Craigslist. Seems like a cheap and cost effective way to discredit the protests. I can't find the listing, it may be gone - it may never have been, but it certainly made the rounds on conservative sites quickly. It was probably posted by a Walker staffer or some PR firm the Koch's hired. Rent-a-mobs generally only bring a couple of hundred people (which still makes them about $1400 an hour) and tend to be organized by PR companies for the side that has all the money. I would be very interesting to know the source of this post.

"It was packed like a Singapore subway train."
