My last Van Halen song here for a while, I promise!
The original lineup through 1984 was quite the unique group of characters. It's only in more recent years, basically since Eddie's death, has David Lee Roth done interviews in a more serious tone showing his true self. He is quite the interesting character and provides some good insight. This starts towards the end, only ~2:20 or so.
He mentions Jan Van Halen, Eddie and Alex's father. This song is AFAIK the only Van Halen song, from the original run at least, with a guest musician. That would be Jan Van Halen on clarinet. This song is indeed a cover, but they kill it IMO.
