McCain's VP choice

Myself? Sure being Mormon doesn't disqualify anyone for me.

That is a bit surprising, whyzzat :?: Do you know what Mormons believe?

I believe the poll was of Republicans only. I did some googling I think this is the source - ' In a June (2007) Washington Post-ABC News poll, 30 percent of Republicans said they would be "less likely" to vote for a Mormon; of them, half -- one Republican in six -- said there was "no chance" they would pull the lever for a Mormon candidate.
'

Only 30%? I'd bet Democrats wouyld poll higher than 30%, but they conviently didn't poll Democrats.

Nothing any stranger then any other religion, IMO.

I do have 2 Mormon friends. Neither of their wives work. One has 5 kids and the other 6. They are both pretty conservative poltically. My understanding is they are a conservative lot. For example, I bowed out of a discussion with one of their wives who was trying to convince us women shouldn't fight in the military because it's not their place. If either of them ran for President I'd vote against them. But, this is due to their conservatism not their Mormonism. If they were running for local office? I'd vote for 1 but not the other. Simply because 1 is much better at Adminstrative and Organizational functions.

The problem with including Democrats is you add in the factor that a Democrat would more then likely vote against a Republican, be they Mormon or not. The question that would need to be answered is what % of Dems would vote against a Republican and how would that # change if the Republican was Mormon.

Either way it'd be a bad choice to run Romney if 30% of the Republican base were polling they'd not vote for him due to religion. This means these people won't go to the polls. So not only would Romney lose likely the local Republican candidates would lose by proxy.

@faethor

They also don't have priests or preachers, they have apostles they follow whom they believe communicate directly with God, in a literal way.

Speaking of Mormons I know? I only have one I can think of, a guy I shared a room with at an engineering conference earlier this year. Nice guy, but certainly card carrying LDS Mormon. He was very upset with Romney because Romney had stated in a debate he did not believe God communicates directly with Mormon apostles.

Mormon = borderline cult
(Jehovah Witness = borderline cult too)

Would I vote for a Mormon? Good question, I doubt it. Would I vote for a Muslim? Not likely for similar reasons.
