Money laundering, fraud and criminal conspiracy you say? To pay for the wall that Mexico was paying for? Well, I, for one, am shocked. He seems like such an honest, stand up guy.
Generally it's people who trust that are the easiest to con. That trust can come from a sense of affiliation - that can be cultural including religious (and maybe more especially the religious as a purpose of religion is to increase in group trust). The more developed countries have higher degrees of trust in general because that it a principle ingredient that has lead to developed countries being developed. The levels of cooperation required to make western civilization work requires extremely high distributed levels of trust.
