The Official War on Women Thread

Soldier’s last wish: Let DOMA die before I do

In February, Morgan asked to meet with Boehner’s staff, and later got her chance to explain how the death benefits her own mother received after her father was killed in an accident while serving on active duty during the Vietnam War helped “buy food and keep a roof over our head when I was growing up.” That was all, she said, she wanted for Karen and their daughter after serving her country for nearly 20 years on active and guard duty.

Ohio GOP's Election Lesson: We Should Go After Planned Parenthood Again!

because killing women (like what happened in Ireland) is Soooooo much fun!
The committee's chairman, Lynn Wachtmann, is among the Ohio House's most anti-abortion lawmakers. He is the sponsor of the state's "Heartbeat bill," which would ban abortions if a doctor can detect a heartbeat—which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. At the beginning of this term, Wachtmann pledged "push the pro-life agenda as far as we can."

The Church of England recently voted to keep women out of power.

Another Irish abortion scandal emerges

Because of delays caused by her not having a passport and the time it took for the hospital to reach its decision, her condition deteriorated and she was not able to receive cancer treatment because of her pregnancy. Eventually she travelled, with great difficulty, to Britain for the abortion.

uhm... this is kind of sickening even with all the other stuff going on... sorry to post it at this time but the war goes on... worldwide...

The court ruled 7-0 that bosses can fire employees they see as an "irresistible attraction," even if the employees have not engaged in flirtatious behavior or otherwise done anything wrong. Such firings may be unfair, but they are not unlawful discrimination under the Iowa Civil Rights Act because they are motivated by feelings and emotions, not gender, Justice Edward Mansfield wrote.
An attorney for Fort Dodge dentist James Knight said the decision, the first of its kind in Iowa, is a victory for family values because Knight fired Melissa Nelson in the interest of saving his marriage, not because she was a woman.

that doesn't sound much different that 'women shouldn't dress sexy because they will guarantee getting raped' or something equally stupid.

so this douchebag can't control his pee pee and fires a women?
yeah, sure

I've got a better idea...how about i ripe off his nuts.
problem solved :D

I wondered if this would ever happen but I suppose it was inevitable. It's a difficult situation. Pee pee control takes effort and control of the heart even more. Talking about the issue could be seen as sexual harassment and just open a company up to greater liabilities than just firing a person. Being honest about why you fire a person also creates liability about discrimination. I'm sure these firings have gone on a long time but under another reason just to try to avoid liability.
If the chemistry between two employees is disruptive to their work or a potential lawsuit in waiting then at least one of them needs to go.

She couldn't seem to 'control' herself either, couldn't do a simple thing like dress down. On the other hand, since neither this man nor the woman seemed to have an issue with the arrangement before his wife t her foot down then it is obviously the wife who should go.
If you are going to blame men for falling in love with women then you may as well blame gays for falling in love with people of their own sex.

anytime i worked in the same room with anyone I made sure i dressed as unattractively as possible. i never spoke about my private life, i never acted unprofessionally, i never encouraged discussion other than the work involved.

if anyone can't behave properly in the workplace they need to be kicked to the curb

Contracting makes it much easier to do that. If you work with a group of people for a number of years the lines can blur. These people are the people you spend most of your time with. Most of the drama usually revolves around the the most attractive people in the office. All the good advice in the world won't get around human nature.

that just tells me most people don't care about their careers like I do

here's some good news...(Page 4):
Kyrsten Sinema: A success story like nobody else’s

and interesting person who despite tough times in her childhood got Very Educated and figured out how to get things done-
Sinema’s signature triumph came at the ballot box, rather than in the legislature. In 2006, she spearheaded the effort to defeat a same-sex marriage ban, the first time such a proposal was defeated at the state level. She managed to do it by developing a strategy that shifted the focus away from sexual orientation, an approach that she says was intensely criticized by some gay rights activists. Instead, Sinema and other opponents argued that the proposition would hurt unmarried heterosexual couples because it would prevent them from participating in medical decisions for their partners.

“She had to change the conversation,” says Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, who credits Sinema with playing a key role in the proposition’s defeat.
this is a person I'm going to be watching....
