Whyzzat can use some juice

@Robert,
I like it, though the relation between Attenbrough's voice and music needs some work I think.

Thanks for the feedback Eyso.

I had a fair bit of bother with Sir David's voice.
I recorded him directly from the headphone out of my ancient telly into the headphone in on my laptop. It was extremely low level and very noisy. This meant that to boost it to a useable level I also had to boost the noise. There's also some incidental music from each of the TV programmes (I sampled two separate shows, which also meant different reverb/ambience for each spoken part) playing along with his voice.

All of this meant I had to try to compensate for it by disguising it with multiple layers of effects, most of which aren't used on the rest of the track. This leaves it sounding a little disconnected from the rest of the track but it was as nice as I could get it to sound without devoting anymore days to it.

I'm not sure if that's the same thing you're hearing but I eventually gave up trying to improve it. I'd already spent several weeks on it and was neglecting stuff the rest of the band were more involved in. (This was pretty much a pet project of mine that came about whilst watching Attenborough.)

Well, if I were you, I'd make the voice of Attenbrough a bit louder, and cut it in sound samples, and choose some of these sound samples which fits the sound the best and place it in the music where it follows the sound the best.

I'd make the voice of Attenbrough a bit louder,

Not really* an option with the source material.

I maybe didn't explain it very well above but because of the poor quality of the original samples, the louder I make Attenborough, the louder the background noise and incidental music.
This means he's already as loud as I could get before you start to notice the noise and music from the TV shows. (Unless I could obtain clean samples of his voice, without incidental music.)

and cut it in sound samples, and choose some of these sound samples which fits the sound the best and place it in the music where it follows the sound the best.

This I could probably do although I'd need a little more specific guidance.

And thanks again for the suggestions Eyso - very much appreciated, sir. :pint:

*It's theoretically possible to clean up the samples I have with software and I did spend a bit of time with noise-removal software and EQ but...... well....... how many years of my life do I devote to one song? :)

@Robert
I'd stop the voice at 1:11,
at 1:40, the 'high' melody kind of interrupts the voice, at that point I'd play a pieces of Attenbroughs' voice where he uses the most intonation, so it resembles that melody the most.
At 2:18 you put a certain fading effect on his voice while it is already soft. I'd let him speak out and rather have the music have that fading effect, and let his voice make the introduction to a bit of change in the re-emerging melody line. Overall, I'd leave out effects on his voice btw. The music is a bit too staccato for that imho.

Thanks Eyso. I'll have another look at it.

If you leave the voice samples bare, the different reverb and incidental music on each original clip is all too apparent.
If you heard the original samples, you'd know what I mean.
Maybe some different effects than the ones I used but leaving them bare isn't an option.

Got a friend whose been filing music around Vancouver. He's currently posting 1000 videos in 1000 days which is quite a commitment but there's lot's of music around here. Here's one of the local boys. This is straight to the mic on the camera. Sounds great.
