Riot in London last night

Walking back through Manchester city centre on the way home from work today,

Stay safe mate. Hope this all dies down soon. Certainly seems quieter tonight.

You local to any of this chaos, Alan? Or is that mate's pic?

It was a pic I spotted on a police blog I've been following. Fortunately I'm not local to it although a very good friend of mine is. To say I'm a touch concerned for her and her hubbies well being would be an understatement.

I saw a drifting column of smoke a while ago from somewhere in the city centre, but it's gone now. I'm guessing a vehicle rather than a building...

Ooft. Hopefully it's petering out. Are they in London?

North East London in a fairly nice neighbourhood, away from the riots I've seen so far, but still Ealing was a nice neighbourhood.

@Karlos, so it has kicked off there then you think?

Just got a phone call from my friend, she and her husband are on holiday in Wales, she's very, very drunk but otherwise ok :D

Nice one. I haven't been drunk for at least, what, half an hour? Need to sort that out soon.... :pint:

Letting the side down! Have at it. Also, amusingly, reports are coming in of Newport in Wales suffering a good few wheely bin barbecues as well as skip fires.

Personally, I'm beginning to suspect it's her :P

I don't see much good from this. No revolution here. The racists and the nationalists will pounce on this and the police will ask for and probably receive more powers for next time. The blacks will stay black and the poor will stay poor, but now with more garbage and debris.

It might be just because Ive not been looking too hard, but I really don't think so. Most people are aware that this isn't a race issue but one born of poverty (not in money terms especially, though there is that, but of aspirations, if that makes sense). They also know that they want the police to be able to do what they're supposed to.

and the police will ask for and probably receive more powers for next time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAha. More powers? They're scared of even looking provocative due to all the shit that went down post Tomlinson. They know full well they have no support from their management or from the government when it comes right down to it, they also know that no matter what they'll be crucified by the press no matter what. There is a reason the riots have gone on as long as they have - It's widely known that for anything more than a slightly raucous picnic, the police are utterly powerless.

The blacks will stay black and the poor will stay poor, but now with more garbage and debris.

Trufax.

Your police force needs to toughen up a little, nothing quite like a good baton charge supported by copious amounts of teargas to quell civil disobedience...

The bobbies on the ground would be only to happy to oblige, unfortunately those in charge would never have the balls to authorise it.

I suppose they could fire some warning shots...aim just above the knees ;)

Seems craigslist has had something of a flood of unopened merchandise showing up in the london area... Anyone fancy a carton of iPhones?

As the meme goes: Seems legit...

More from sickipedia:

What do London and Amy Winehouse have in common?

They're both in ashes.

Police ask parents to call their children and ask where they are.

If only it was that easy for Kate and Gerry.

And finally, for those of you tired of having guilt trips thrown at you during the adverts.

Ngongo Mwambi has to travel 5 miles every day for fresh water and 7 miles for food...........This is because the daft cow torched Peckham Spar and Tottenham KFC and now has to walk to Croydon for breakfast.

How's everyone on the East side of the pond?
