Jesus was crucified on a cross, that is history not fantasy.
Most atheists would say the opposite. Regardless, I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good - even though I'm an atheist.

Actually the Romans kept records of this, it is fact that Jesus was crucified.
Sorry, I meant, Jesus as the son of God. Yes, someone claiming to be the son of God was crucified.

Although I don't believe Jesus was god, I do believe that what is stated in the Bible is at least loosely based on actual events of the time. My take on it is this Jesus guy was no different then many of the miracle workers that still travel around today. He probably had a bunch of loonies following him around and believing everything he said. In the end he probably pissed off the wrong guys and they had him crucified.

Which according to the Bible wouldn't be the true Son of God as when asked if he was the son of the God Jesus replied to PP -- those are your words not mine. Or something to that effect, likely that's the JC Superstar wording.

Do you have any sources backing this which we could see?

Sadly no, I don't have any quick links to print reference of this. There was a History Channel special on Jesus I saw a while back (??"Fact or Fiction: The Passion"?? Maybe). It spoke about this in some detail and mentioned their sources. I'll keep an eye on the History Chanel's scheduling going into the Christmas holiday and record the segment if I find it.

The rest is 2000 years of spin and conjecture based upon then-pop-culture urban legend.
Exactly. The bible has been translated too many times to be of any real use. It's like playing chinese whispers with far too many people.
