Georgia, the Olympics, the US armada and Iran

So was this fracturing of NATO part of the US plan as well? Or was this just an oopsie by the geniuses at the Pentagon?

I think this would fit with the neo-cons general modus operandi, i.e. old Europe doesn't matter, the US is so darned huge and militarily dominant they can do whatever they want and no-one would dare stand against them. They also seem to work on a "blow it up now, if it doesn't work out we'll sort it out later" kind of plan.

There's no doubt in my mind that Russia pre-planned this well in advance. I'm sure they want something for their troubles.
Didn't Georgia bomb the area first?

Well, in this round, yes but perhaps the Russian 'provocation' we keep hearing about was designed to specifically get Georgia to bomb the bejeezurs out of civilian areas of a supposedly Georgian city, making the Georgian's look evil ("He killed thousands of his own people!" - remember that old chestnut?) and giving Russia the perfect excuse to actually be evil.

This at least is what we're being expected to believe by the UK news media.

Exactly how do you go about provoking a country to slaughter thousands of it's countrymen for having the audacity to not want to be countrymen?

I don't think any of us want to see Russia setting up miltary bases all over the planet and arming countries who don't get on with the US.

Well, well, well:
Moscow is expected to propose a revival of its Cold War era naval base at the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean, with some Russian reports even saying Moscow is already deepening it to accommodate a fleet of war ships. Russia may have similar ambitions for the port of Latakia, using Syria – which is in need of a powerful global backer – as a bridgehead for extending its regional influence.
